State law prohibits people from live trapping animals and releasing them elsewhere Well, that takes all of the fun out of it. Why go through all of the trouble of live trapping them if you can't release them on well deserving people?

"Beavers, muskrats, rabbits, opossums, weasels and several types of squirrel, including chipmunks, are now legal to trap and kill in Michigan without a permit under recent nuisance wildlife regulation changes." More destruction of the food supply.??

Unfortunately they didn’t add politicians to the list of nuisance animals.

How much damage can a chipmunk do???? A great deal.
Chipmunks burrow next to your foundational slab, hole fills with water, water freezes, slab cracks.
Chipmunks chew on wiring. I don't think I need to explain what happens next.
Chipmunks can get through the garden fence. I don't think I need to explain there either.
Around the cabin when we winterize the place one of the things we do is check for chipmunks and set traps.

Sounds like a really good time to get your 13 year old a .22 LR. Make marksmen out of ‘em.

“Instead of blaming these creatures for acting in accordance with their natural instincts, let’s hold the landowners accountable for their lack of preparedness and awareness,” argued animal rights activist Brece Clark. “It’s reminiscent of the old saying, ‘proper planning and preparation prevents piss poor performance.’ Instead of resorting to wildlife extermination, we should encourage landowners to take responsibility by planning ahead.” Fine, you can then pay for the damage they cause when they overpopulate an area.
Exactly what *planning* are property owners to do to prevent infestation and damage caused by rodents?

From personal experience squirrels, chipmunks, or rats can do about $2200 if they crawl up under the hood of a car and start chewing on wiring harnesses.
To: Varda
Am not well informed about them.

You going to jack up my cabin and pour a new foundation?
Even if the answer is yes, Chip and Dale are still going to chipmunk heaven.
