Hard to believe all those cell phone users while driving never discovered hands free. In my area if one has a phone held up to their head while driving, they pay a big fat fine.

Wow that’s awful. Use to ride when I was younger. You really had to be on your A game and really ride defensively.

I love Sportsters. The 883 etc...They look like a motorcycle should look. Started making Sportsters in 1957 and didn't stop until this year, I believe.

You have to be careful. Around town with lots of cross traffic, on a bike I'm just cruising slow. I see cars as 4,000 pound hammers.

good grief

Climate plays an important role when looking at the most dangerous states for motorcycle riders.
We found that warmer, southern states with weather conducive to riding have the highest rates of motorcycle fatalities.
Mississippi is the most dangerous state for motorcycle riders

check out the stats...https://www.statista.com/statistics/191002/number-of-registered-motorcycles-in-the-us-by-state/

Miss ranks what, 46th in the number of motorcycles?
California ranks 2nd.

Why isn't California the most dangerous state?

Wyoming,Maryland,Michigan,Colorado,Indiana,Kansas, Nebraska and Deleware ranked higher than Calif as dangerous?
Yep...I'm convinced it's climate change.

My Sporty is an XL1200R. I still have it. There is also a 2009 Fat Bob in the garage. The remainder a Yamaha, Kawasaki, Honda, Suzuki and a Piaggio BV500. My wife prefers the twist and go, so it's BV500 and Honda CTX700 for her. I just changed the wheels on the DR650 to 17 inch supermoto style from Warp9. The install is done, but waiting for good weather and a free weekend. At 66, I'm getting a bit old for mountain climbing in the local area. The supermoto wheels and street tires are suitable for local travel.

I see them flying down the interstate at about 180 MHP. So why should we be surprised.

There it is...Left turn bays everywhere. Some people look but just don’t see. They even miss full size cars all the time, turning left right into on-coming opposing traffic.

Even in cars, when encountering cross traffic/intersections, I’m covering the brakes just waiting for them to move.

I rode both in California and Texas.......virtually everyone I passed was looking at their phones and it’s still that way. Before cell phones......it was fairly safe. no more....no way.

Just something about a Sportster I love. 66 years they've basically made the same model/engine..The only big changes were fuel injection, electronic ignition etc..

I've had about 20 bikes over the years...Everything from a 1941 ULH Harley 80" flathead to Yamaha XT250s, to T120 Triumphs etc...

I’ve got some rules:
1. Don’t drink and ride motorcycle
- Don’t be a dumb ass
2. Wear a helmet
- Ha da rock the size of a quarter hit my helmet right above my eyes. I would have been dead if I wasn’t wearing a helmet.
3. Don’t go faster than I am confortable doing
- goes along with don’t be a dumb ass above
4. Ride like the other people would like to kill me
5. Expect other drivers won’t see me

My Yamaha TW200 and XT250 went away. The XT250 because my son wanted a Ninja 650 and the garage space was limited. The TW200 because it wasn't getting ridden. The only bike I have with a carb today is the DR650. All the others are fuel injected. It just accommodates life at 4600 ft better. I had a BSA Victor 500MX before I got married in 1978. Lots of fun, but dirt only. Sold because I had nowhere to keep it in the condo I purchased when I got married.

Hoping to enjoy more time on my bikes in retirement. The current state of dysfunction government keeps delaying the retirement date.

Splitting lanes in heavy traffic is statistically safer for motorcyclists...which is why it is legal in Kalifornia.

Ain’ that the truth. Either you have been knocked off your bike by an inattentive driver, or you WILL BE knocked off your bike by an inattentive driver.

I ride like I’m mostly invisible, and the few that DO see me are trying to run me over.

It *mostly* works.

Exactly. I always have the attitude that all the other vehicles are out to kill me. Even though lane splitting is legal out here, I rarely if ever do it. I have had people intentionally close up the gap on me. One time, it was extremely stupid but pure instinct kicked in and while still rolling I kicked the car fender that was no more than a foot from my left peg and closing. It actually crumpled and knocked her fender and fascia loose. I took off and She just kept on going and I could see her fender dragging in my mirror. Car was just a sh*tbox anyway.

They’ll intentionally close the gaps on you, like they’re jealous that they’re stopped but you are still moving.
