I just had to post a link to this video.
Anyone who can do those Johnny Cash lyrics has practiced a lot. Robinson has a natural connection with the true Patriots across the heartland of this country. And, his conservative credentials can be traced back to his 2018 statement at his county commissioner's meeting where he stood up for the 2nd Amendment rights of the citizens of our nation.

Just look at all the tributes that came out for Gordon Lightfoot, who hadn't even had a hit in about 50 years. But there will always be an appreciation for well-crafted songs and lyrics.
“I’m so old, I actually remember Hank Snow, Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, all the greats, playing on my parents’ car radio.”
Patsy Cline! She died so young in that plane crash.
But, if you want to have a romantic and sweet night with your spouse, play a recording of some of Patsy’s greatest hits and slow dance to THAT music for a while! LOL!
The chances of conservatives creating a new party is slim. Therefore, we have to take over the Republican party and elect more and more conservatives in Governor, state legislatures, and federal House and Senate positions. I think Robinson is one who can help us in that goal.
What is your plan?
I think you probably meant to post that reply to Jim Noble.
So, I’ve helped you out.
The same thing I was asking him. I just pinged you, since he’d made his absurd reply, to you.
;-)
“I think you probably meant to post that reply to Jim Noble.”
You are correct. Thank you for helping to correct my error.
Well, I’m single. Thinking it would be nice if Free Republic had a lonely hearts chapter for like minded people of a certain age.

That’s a good idea! I’m 60+ and have my 45+ wedding anniversary coming up soon. Thus, I’m not in the market for a “like-minded” spouse, but I have conservative nieces and nephews in their mid-to late 20’s (LOL!). Plus, it seems we do have a few of the younger folks joining us here at FR.
This site does need a “Conservative lonely hearts” chapter group, so younger ladies and gentlemen, along with older widows and widowers, can discuss what they are looking for in their future help-meet. Of course, double-checking vetting would need to be done.
Just a thought.
The original song was written by Australian country singer Geoff Mack in 1959.
The song was presented to Hank Snow. Initially, the song was declined because the lyric locations were Aussie towns and cities. They didn’t think it would work in Nashville, so the Aussie names were changed to US towns and cities.
Several artists have recorded the Americanized version.
I think at one time there was one, but it has faded away
That’s pretty cool!
Confirmed. Patsy, Hank, and Randy Travis and Johnny Horton. Nothing smoother. Will never be matched. Miss em all.
Love that guy. My God bless and keep Mark Robinson . Amen

I know all previous generations said the same thing when it comes to the next generation’s music preferences. However, you have to admit, the vulgar rap we hear today has no musical notes whatsoever, few actually play musical instruments, and there is nothing in the lyrics that can be called poetry or musical at all. Lyrics are supposed to be made of actual words, not by grunts and vulgarities.
(Just my old-age opinion).
Give me southern rock with the Allman Brothers and the Marshall Tucker Band, are even the flute playing contributions of Jethro Tull. Or, give me old country music with Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, Charlie Pride, and Patsy Cline! I also love bluegrass with Tony Rice, Bill Munroe, etc, and the smooth sounds of Allison Krause.
I’d even prefer the Big Band sounds of the 40s and 50s.
There are so many better sounds from musicians and bands from decades ago than what we hear as the “top” music of today. There is a reason that there are radio stations with the top 60s 70s and 80s tunes. That music is listened to and sells advertising even to this day.
[Gosh, I feel old! LOL!]

“Geoff Mack talks about ‘I’ve been everywhere’”
That’s great! I love history regarding music and how a particular song evolved and eventually came to be a hit!
“Geoff Mack talks about ‘I’ve been everywhere’”
I love it all! In addition to the spoofs and “play-offs” that follow.
Musical history tells stories about our nation and our world. From the time of the depression, and even before, to music today (which I do not like), it all is based upon history.
I especially love the old musical instruments which were created from what families had around them. Whether pieces of pottery and a spoon, to a few strings tacked to a piece of board, music has been a part of man’s being and soul since our creation.
I still hear them on the radio. 106.9 The Ranch out of Corsicana, TX. They also stream. They cover nearly 80 years of country music.

So many wonderful oldies.
