A woman who smoked up to a pack of cigarettes a day found them 'disgusting' when she started taking Ozempic. Now she hasn't smoked in 6 months.

Ashlee Wright has four boys under age 16, a home, a husband, and a demanding job as a mining coordinator in Utah. Sometimes, she needs a break; and for years, smoking cigarettes provided it.

"Smoking would be kind of my 'time out' at home," said Wright, 35, who smoked between a half pack and a pack a day, usually on her porch.

Then about six months ago, Wright started taking Ozempic, a form of semaglutide used to treat diabetes and increasingly prescribed off-label for weight loss.

Wright said she and her doctor decided to try it off-label to manage her insulin resistance, polycystic ovary syndrome, and reduce her heart-disease risk. The possibility of weight-loss was appealing, too

Wright says the drug, which she pays for out-of-pocket, lowered her blood pressure and cholesterol, lightened her periods, and led to her dropping 45 pounds. It also came with an unexpected side effect: She couldn't finish a single cigarette. "I quit smoking within a few weeks because every time I smoked, it was just disgusting," Wright said.

Wright turned to nicotine gum to manage withdrawals and ice cubes for a tactile replacement. She's also come up with games that challenge her kids to bike to the park to give her a break. "I had to find creative ways to have a little reset instead of going out on the porch and hiding," she said.

Others have reported similar experiences. "I was a causal smoker years! However once I moved to the higher dosage of Ozempic, I had zero urge to smoke and actually haven't smoked in 9 months," one poster wrote on Reddit.

Her face looks the same Before & After. In both she looks happy and vivacious. Her t-shirt might be draping the true results. Maybe there are fewer folds and Love Handles encircling her waist.

I tried it for a few months. I got used to the injections, but I didn’t get used to feeling slightly nauseous all of the time, so I make an executive decision and took myself off of it. Now, I just keep my portions small - most of the time.

every time I smoked, it was just disgusting . . .

My first (and only) experience with smoking as a stupid teenager.

After that, I wouldn't even date girls who smoked.

I’ve been smoking Marlboros (Red Box) for 58 years, and only have a mild case of COPD. So far. Kona Hawaiian Coffee and a couple of Marlboros in the morning is orgasmic.

Let me fast forward everyone to the news story about 10 - 15 years from now:

“Today Novo Nordisk A/S, the maker of Ozempic settled an $800 billion class action suit for severe damage to the skeletal and muscular systems of millions of people taking the drug between 2021 and 2032 before the product was pulled from the market over health risks”

It’s been around since 2012 and has a perfect safety record. I don’t know how it’s magically gotten dangerous since people started using it to lose weight.

For weight loss, diabetes, or quitting smoking?

Ozempic simply suppresses the appetite while doing who-knows-what internally. It appears that if one wants to drop some extra body weight, they can simply exercise a bit of self control on the portions, integrate some activity into your day and avoid the sugary, carb-laden, processed garbage that is labeled “food”. Just eliminating soda, fruit juice and other sugary drinks would allow people to lose some unwanted pounds with very little effort.

I guess you haven’t been following the bone density and muscle loss that has been occurring. Some people are losing muscle like they are 70, when they are in their 50s. Also, they up the dose for weight loss beyond its original purpose for diabetes.

I never, ever understood smoking, but then again, I never understood tattoos either. My sense is that a lot of people simply succumb to the need to fit into the culture and smoking used to be the means to be cool and fit in. Today, it’s tattoos.

I remember it well... KISSING a girl who SMOKED was akin to kissing an ashtray.
