Protests against the killing of homeless schizophrenic Jordan Neely on the New York City subway turned violent on Monday night, with a demonstrator pictured being restrained by police with blood pouring down his face.
Neely, 30, was killed on May 1 when, while ranting and throwing garbage at subway passengers, he was put into a chokehold by a 24-year-old former Marine, Daniel Penny.
Neely's death was decreed a homicide last week, and the Neely family are calling for Penny to be prosecuted. The Manhattan district attorney is weighing whether to press charges.
On Monday, demonstrators calling for justice for Neely took to the streets once again, rallying near the Broadway-Lafayette station in lower Manhattan where Neely was killed.
A well-known photographer, Stephanie Keith, whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Reuters and Getty, was detained.
One protester was seen being wrestled to the ground with blood pouring from a wound on his head.
Several more were pushed to the floor - one shirtless man had a police officer kneeling on his chest.
The NYPD is yet to confirm how many arrests were made, when asked by DailyMail.com.

Yes, I know. I had a relative who was schizophrenic. The mood swings are crazy.
Many have co-morbidities like borderline personalityand bipolar problems.
They are so hard to live with.
The delusions are indeed incredible. If the person is high-functioning, a genius, even, their creativity is phenomenal . My person was an artist...think Van Gogh.
It is tragic all around.
Re How many protesters were arrested -NOT ENOUGH!!!!
These ignorant fools should be exterminated for stupidity.
Too bad.
Sing it.
Please tell me what a brownstone is. Where are they found? I presume a brownstone is some type of house.
I would love to do another walking tour of Manhattan before I get to old, if things settle down a bit.
Oh, yes. I have seen Brownstones but did not know they are called that. Thanks,
Amazing how none of these protestors care about the other 499 blacks who were killed last year.
Dear Silly, Giggling Morgana. Do you consider yourself a psychopath or a sociopath or both?
It was just three years ago that the left had their excuse to riot, burn, destroy, assault, rape, kill and loot. They are trying to create another summer of democrat-organized violence which will never be prosecuted and serve as the excuse to demand reparations.
A brownstone is a town house with a front made of brownstone. Sometimes it’s used to describe all townhouses generically. Some have solid brownstone fronts, the most valuable. Some have brownstone elements on the facade. Others are made of other materials entirely.
There are lots of brownstones in Manhattan. You can see them in the West Greenwich Village, Gramercy Park, the East Side, Upper East Side and Upper West Side.
They are brownstones elsewhere in Manhattan, including Harlem and the Upper Upper West Side going all the way up to the Bronx. There are miles of them in Brooklyn.
Probably the best place to see them is to going to Central Park West at 59th Street and start walking north. Take any side street going east and walk for a few blocks to around Third Avenue, turn left (north), go a block, and turn left back and walk west toward Central Park. Then turn right heading north and repeat.
Sorry. Major error in prior post.
Start at Fifth Avenue at Central Park East at 59th Street. NOT Central Park West.
If you ever go through Middletown, Conn. There is a quarry by the Arrigoni bridge that supplied all the Brownstone for New York City. You can go into the quarry and explore it, very interesting history.
Thanks. I do occasionally go by Middletown, CT. I know people in Meriden.
An interesting website about brownstones is:

I grew up in a Brooklyn brownstone that was built in 1891.
My father bought it in 1936 for $5,000.
It’s present market valuation is $2,000,000.
My gosh! That is quite a Brownstone price appreciation!
The thing is, these protesters do not care about the mentally ill dead man. Not at all. Nor did they care about George Floyd.
Much like they do not care if the LEO training center is being built in Atlanta.
I suspect they are all hired and paid to appear on demand and protest at the drop of a dime. I bet some are paid more than other as organizers of the groups, and I bet Soros money is behind it.
