Protests against the killing of homeless schizophrenic Jordan Neely on the New York City subway turned violent on Monday night, with a demonstrator pictured being restrained by police with blood pouring down his face.
Neely, 30, was killed on May 1 when, while ranting and throwing garbage at subway passengers, he was put into a chokehold by a 24-year-old former Marine, Daniel Penny.
Neely's death was decreed a homicide last week, and the Neely family are calling for Penny to be prosecuted. The Manhattan district attorney is weighing whether to press charges.
On Monday, demonstrators calling for justice for Neely took to the streets once again, rallying near the Broadway-Lafayette station in lower Manhattan where Neely was killed.
A well-known photographer, Stephanie Keith, whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Reuters and Getty, was detained.
One protester was seen being wrestled to the ground with blood pouring from a wound on his head.
Several more were pushed to the floor - one shirtless man had a police officer kneeling on his chest.
The NYPD is yet to confirm how many arrests were made, when asked by DailyMail.com.

Street zombies of the world unite!
Looks like we have our new patron saint of summer violence
I’ve seen that kind of injury before. He smashed his own head into the pavement.
Odd eh?
Wait until all the migrants are set up at the proposed Central Park tent facilities.
It won’t take long until the migrants think they’re not being treated well enough and revolt.
Escape from New York City.

“new patron saint of summer violence”
LOL I love you guys!!
“Odd eh?”
Naw I just post this to see what funny shit you all will say.
You all make me giggle.
Look for St. Neely’s Day to be added to the calendar year.
Only 42 arrests. I think to achieve full Sainthood you have to hit 45.
Indeed.
Adams is completely bonkers if he thinks New Yorkers are going to take his plans lying down.
I have many relatives in Rockland County. It has been a magnet for NYPD and FDNY people, active and retired, for fifty years. They will not let Adams destroy their towns.
Likewise with the neighborhoods surrounding Prospect Park...Park Slope, Kensington, and Windsor Terrace. I know these areas well.
Both longterm residents, and the newcomers from other states and countries (BTW, who are paying 1 to 2 million dollars for the old brownstones) are going to fight Adams tooth and nail.
You are about to see the biggest NIMBY pushback ever, in the history of Brooklyn!
I had the misfortune of marrying a woman who later expressed schizophrenia - which the family covered up completely. I was only married to her for 3 years, the 2nd half of which was like a trip through hell. Paranoid schizophrenics can turn on a dime and the changes in their personality and outward behavior are hard to believe unless you have seen this illness expressed in someone you are close to. And the sudden shifts to violence and delusional paranoid fantasies are stunning - even reflecting on this 40 years after the fact. In retrospect I consider myself lucky to have gotten out of that marriage alive.
The really shocking thing is to realize how hard it is to treat these folks. They do not stay on their medication; they form paranoid theories that their doctors are trying to kill them, and they reject treatment. You would need several full-time positions to effectively manage someone like the guy who was choked out (of existence) on the subway. It’s a very difficult problem with no easy solutions.
I hope so.
They need to play Chris Rock’s “how to not get your ass-kicked by the police” skit with the sound track removed on a Jumbotron to the crowd.
err: laugh-track
This generation is too stupid to understand.
My understanding is being on the medication either leaves them sick or in a daze. Better medication is needed here.
