The organizers of a women's running race in Spain apologized Monday after the winner was offered a food processor to take home, sparking accusations of sexism. The 7-kilometer Carrera de la Mujer women's race issued a statement on Twitter saying it hadn't considered the kitchen appliance -- donated by a sponsor -- would have sexist implications.

The food processor controversy went largely unnoticed until Ángela Rodríguez Pam, Spain's secretary of state for equality, tweeted that the winner had received a food processor and others were given 0% fat products.
"If you win: housewife and if not at least you'll lose weight," Rodríguez Pam tweeted.

This is a tiny race (just a bit more than a standard 5k here) and I’m sure many people walked it and maybe were just starting out in their fitness regimen. They wouldn’t have eaten or drunk anything other than vegetables and “diet foods,” and having another blender never hurts! We’ve never given anything that much fun at our 5ks. So why stir up trouble?
One of the reasons is that a Spanish women’s athletic group (cyclists) came out and opposed having men take over women’s sports.
Spain is very left wing now (not the people, but the government) so it took courage to do this...and I’m sure they will be punished.
I’m a dude, like to cook, and would welcome a nice food processor. Just sayin’.

One of my to-dos in July when things slow down is to work on pizza doughs. I’ve moved away from the awesome Italian grocery that had great doughs in the refrigerated case.
