Chicago Gay Bars Stop Selling Bud Light, Other Anheuser-Busch Beers After Brand Backs Down To Anti-Trans Critics

A slew of Chicago gay bars have stopped selling Anheuser Busch InBev products after the beer giant distanced itself from transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney’s Bud Light marketing campaign amid anti-trans backlash.

2Bears Tavern Group, which owns four gay bars from Uptown to Rogers Park, was the first to drop Anheuser-Busch InBev, posting on Instagram Thursday that its abandonment of Mulvaney amid controversy “shows how little Anheuser-Busch cares about the LGBTQIA+ community, and in particular transgender people, who have been under unrelenting attack in this country.”

Sidetrack, a 41-year-old gay bar founded by LGBTQ rights pioneers Art Johnston and Jose Pepé Peña, later made the same announcement.

“We must also hold brands accountable if they take active steps against LGBTQ+ equality, visibility and safety,” Sidetrack posted.

The gay bars will no longer sell all Anheuser-Busch products, including Bud Light, Busch Light and Goose Island 312.(snip)

The team behind 2Bears Tavern Group accused the company of erasing “transgender people in favor of anti-trans vitriol.” The bar group includes 2Bears Tavern Uptown, Jackhammer, Meetinghouse Tavern and the SoFo Tap.

Sidetrack said the CEO’s statement “wrongfully validates the position that it is acceptable to acquiesce to the demands of those who do not support the trans community.”

If I were head of marketing for a large corporation I would not think of associating my product with cultural shifts of the day. Why alienate customers?

Now, it seems apparent that large corporations are beholden to those who regulate them. If there is a necessary “wall of separation,” it should be between business and congress except where matter of general, genuine safety are concerned.

Pandering is not only bad business, but stupid.

Anti-anti boycott. That works even better than the original boycott.

It’s not just politics, it’s woke politics. It’s divisive and a call to arms, as many of the self-described ‘woke’ have said. Not something you want to do if you’re trying to keep your customers happy.

When you stand for everything, you stand for nothing.
When you try to please everyone, you please no one.

Maybe AB is learning a lesson (nah, corporate whores never learn anything because they already know everything)

I love it. The woke idiots at AB screwed themselves with all sides on this by jumping into the fray when they should have just stayed out of it and sold beer.

So Bud light saw a pond filled with sharks fighting gators, jumped in and picked a side. Once they realized the opposition had broad support, they attempted to disengage leaving both the gators and sharks mad at them. Their only hope at this point is a functional time machine.
