Paramount has officially announced that season 5 will be the last of “Yellowstone”.
A sequel is set to premiere on Paramount in December, according to a statement released by Paramount. The sequel doesn’t yet have a title that has been announced. Matthew McConaughey has been “lined up” for it according to Paramount executive producer Chris McCarthy.
McCarthy said in part, “‘Yellowstone’ has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits. I am confident our ‘Yellowstone’ sequel will be another big hit. The Dutton story continues, picking up where ‘Yellowstone’ leaves off in another epic tale.”
Costner told USA Today in November, “I was only going to do one season, but I’ve done this many. I give everything I can to what I’m doing. But the moment I feel that it’s not right, I’m just going to step away.”
Deadline had reported earlier this year that the series was likely to end with this season. Part of this is reportedly because Costner had wanted to spend less time shooting.
Deadline reported in part:
But for the second batch of episodes of the current, fifth season of Yellowstone, the actor, who just won best television actor in a drama series at the Golden Globes, only wanted to spend a week shooting.
Costner is directing and starring in his multi-part western epic Horizon, which he co-wrote with Jon Baird that landed at Warner Bros. Pictures and New Line.
Given that Costner plays John Dutton, the patriarch of the Dutton clan, this has been a source of frustration for Sheridan and it is understood to be causing morale problems for the other stars of the show, which includes Luke Grimes, Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, Cole Hauser, Kelsey Asbille and Gil Birmingham.
It seems with this the decision was made to end the series. We will see what is next for the Dutton family in the new sequel.
There was a rumor about who his wife was having an affair which might be why it is ending....
Jumping from network to network wore me down and the thing got dull. It had its moments, but I don’t care about watching anymore.
The ‘prophecy’ from “1883” will have the Dutton Ranch returning to Native American ownership. I imagine that’s where they might close the show unless the sequel will take place on the same ranch with a different star.
In which case why do a sequel? Just keep making the show but without Kevin Costner.
His performance in The Big Chill was dead on.
I’ve lived in Wyoming since 2010 and while I’ve never seen any of the drama that takes place in every show I will say that the people here are fierce defenders of what’s theirs.
I’ll also say no one dumps bodies in Montana.
Why throw away good hog food?
I’ve been meaning to watch this. Is it good?
There are two reasons. Paramount does not own the streaming rights amd Taylor overextended himself with his other shows. The writing turned to crap.
Yes, if you like shows that have people arguing all the time and shooting each other.................
I like it, but it has suffered because of bad writing. Taylor created other shows and focused on them.
The sequel gets them out of their deal with Peacock. They’d sold the streaming rights to Yellowstone to them before they made their own streaming service. Now they’ve got their own. But Peacock still owns Yellowstone. End the show, end the problem.
Yeah, The Natural is a great movie, one that I'll watch almost every time I see it on TCM. Open Range is excellent, too, as is most anything with Robert Duvall in the cast.
I think the supporting cast is what compels me to watch Field of Dreams from time to time, as well. Ray Liotta. James Earl Jones. Burt Lancaster!! Costner has been damned lucky, if you think about it.
I don’t know. James Earls Jones’ declaration of the innocence and joy of America that baseball represents brings a tear to my eye. I love the whole thing.
Yep. I think you nailed it.
Is this sequel going to be set in the future where everysingle person with a button down shirt is a diabolical, entitled narcissist who the audience believe is a role-model?
If you can’t tell, I hate that show and every character in it.
LOL!! Just saw that in the news today. Second divorce. This one after 18 years. Maybe he's hoping Liz Cheney will become available.
He should visit the DC view ..to make that happen.
Bongo Boy will get 3 and out, the guy has no attention span. You'll know Yellowstone has jumped the shark when the ranch switches to growing weed, and Woody Harrelson makes an appearance as "Himself" lofl.
He should visit the DC ZOO ..to make that happen.
Who care about the personal life of actors, I don't. Costner owes me nothing. He created one of the best cable series I have ever watched and I'm sad to see it end. Hopefully whatever spins off will be just as good.
Who cares, it's none of our business. If you're interested, a good friend's wife of 25 years just filed for divorce. It's none of my business to ask him why but I'll give you his phone number and you can call him if you like.
