Police videos
“It was me! I need a tourniquet!”
We’re now learning more about a situation when a Hobart-Lawrence officer’s gun went off, shooting him in the leg during a police chase.
Police released footage from Officer Samuel Schroeder’s body and dash cameras from early December.
Officers were asked to check on a person’s welfare. Officer Schroeder pulled that person over after a short pursuit, then was hurt when his gun fired. The video shows him falling to the ground shortly after a gun goes off.
A closer inspection of the video shows Officer Schroeder’s finger was inside the trigger guard. Hobart-Lawrence Police Chief Michael Renkas tells our sister station WISN Officer Schroeder couldn’t explain that but denied doing anything outside his training. Renkas said the gun was inspected by Nelson Tactical in Green Bay, which couldn’t find any problem with the gun and couldn’t reproduce the gun firing without using the trigger.
Chief Renkas wrote, “We do not have video of the moment the firearm was discharged; however, the possibility of the discharge being a result of handling the weapon is a consideration.”
The gun is a SIG Sauer -- a company facing lawsuits from wounded officers in several states claiming the gun goes off by itself. Hobart-Lawrence police officers received new Staccato P pistols this year.
In December, the police department told us Officer Schroeder was a 7-year veteran of the department and was expected to make a full recovery.

The officer fortunately will be okay. It's another example of the need for training and trigger discipline. It adds to the debate as to whether a handgun should have a safety. It's also another example to dispel the lie that you don't need a firearm because the police have them.

Actually, this event is an example of why regular people should be armed and that’s because clowns with badges are also armed.

The gun is a SIG Sauer I guess we can't call it "Glock Leg" anymore.

And the Chief says that was "not outside his training"?

“I guess we can’t call it “Glock Leg” anymore.”
Lots of guns are now unsafe since popular consensus was that a manual safety was no longer needed. The “Just keep your damned finger off the f***** trigger!” crowd started making guns.

Is the officer Black? If so, here’s how MSNBC will report the story: “Black man gunned down by police officer while exiting car.”

It adds to the debate as to whether a handgun should have a safety. I like a safety, but then, I'm partial to Ol' Slabsides.

I know it often comes down to training.
But, I wonder how common it was for police officers and others to shoot themselves in the thigh or ass when carrying revolvers was the norm?
I also wonder about the standard of marksmanship among professionals during the revolver era as well.

Officer Schroeder’s finger was inside the trigger guard. The gun didn't "go off". The ossifer put his finger on the trigger and pulled it.

The guy needs a better gun... My suggestion at this point would be the Beretta PX4, either full size or compact and preferably in SW 40 caliber rather than 9mm.

Actually, this event is an example of why regular people should be armed and that’s because clowns with badges are also armed. Armed, yes, but also having a bleed kit and proper training. This officer is lucky the other officer was there and that the driver wasn't a hostile perp.

And it turns out to be an Sig.
I got a couple of these newfangled things called 1911s - they have a thumb safety that prevents this, or at least greatly reduces the chances of “Glock leg”, or “Sig Leg”.
