The grocer plans to open 35 stores in the first quarter alone |
Batavia, Ill.,-based Aldi is adding 120 new stores this year and will have more than 2,400 stores nationwide by the end of the year.
This year’s planned expansion builds on a strong year in 2022 when Aldi opened and remodeled 139 stores, welcomed approximately 9.4 million new customers and drove double-digit growth year-over-year as shoppers sought relief from soaring food prices. The grocer is on track to continue that momentum this year, opening 35 stores in the first quarter alone and welcoming 5.3 million new customers to its stores as of April 2023.
Aldi new store openings will span the continental U.S., including the rapidly growing Southeast region where Aldi recently opened its 26th regional headquarters and distribution center in Loxley, Ala., to help support new stores in the area. This year, Aldi will add stores in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, new markets for the grocer.
The brick-and-mortar expansion is part of a larger omnichannel experience designed to make grocery shopping as convenient and enjoyable as possible, no matter how customers prefer to shop, whether in-store, through curbside pickup or via delivery through shop.ALDI.us or through ecommerce partners DoorDash and Instacart.
As part of its larger commitment to sustainability, the grocer is enhancing new and existing stores with eco-friendly features, including installing rooftop solar panels and eliminating plastic shopping bags. Aldi also is implementing environmentally friendly refrigerants in its stores, an important move to reduce carbon emissions that earned the grocer recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) GreenChill program.
As part of this national expansion, Aldi will add nearly 2,000 new employees to support the additional store count.

My opinions…
We went into one of these sometime back and I was totally unimpressed.
Wegmans....low prices...lol
Just walk out the Walmart door with your property. Once you exchanged money for groceries, said grocery ownership transferred to you. It’s up to them to prove your guilt, not you to prove your innocence.
Aldi, like Sam’s Club, never had shopping bags
In the event I don’t have any in my truck, I buy some bags at the check out. So, yes, they do have bags - they just don’t “give them away”.
I really like Aldies as it’s fun to try thir selections...and their produce is always better than the other food stores here. Although I’m not fond of their meat so go elsewhere.
Their Frozen Bacon wrapped Scallops are wonderful for a quick meal for one. 6 to a container. ..and their packaged corn on the cob is sweet as can be.
You should go or you’re missing out on some great tasting food buys. Their breads are great too....produce excellent!
Our local Aldi’s also has a system where you deposit a quarter to unlock a cart, and you get your quarter back when you return the cart to the cart area. Usually one of the stumbling blocks to the whole trip there when you don’t routinely carry change in your pocket. Or is that just me?
I always have quarters and other loose charge in my car. And if you are not buying that much, grab an empty box at Aldis or bring in your own reusable shopping bag./ I have two in my car. Aldis is fun and lots of bargains. Give it a shot.
“It’s been hit or miss for us with Aldi. I’m not impressed with their ground beef”
I get their grass fed beef and lamb. They are both about $5.50 per one pound package. The grass fed beef is always there. The ground lamb comes and goes. But makes delicious lamb burgers and is not fatty at all.
Sure, cook it or sear it. Obviously, if it is sushi/sashimi grade enough for me to really like it raw. Then it is good enough to cook too. For me raw tuna means with soy sauce---- and some common yellow mustard or some hot sauce for dipping. With rice on the side.

When you are patient enough to get edumacted about the ins and outs of Aldis...... There are bargains all over the store. And always, always check out their weekly sales circulars. (which are also online) They are your cheat sheets. I have bought pruning shears and garden loppers there that are high quality. Bought two pedestal fans too. And other non-food items.
You’re absolutely right about Aldis non-food items. Quality says it best as I’ve purchased several items there. Recently a great chopping board for a family member who cooks a lot. Their items make great gifts.
It’s just you frankly. I finally worked over that stumbling block by getting a roll of quarters for my suv and to scatter in coat pockets. Now I’m never without.
There’s so many interesting foods to try and look at there. They have a vanilla flavored coffee that’s Nice and smooth. Also their spices are great. Baking supplies too. Also their Premium Select vanilla bean ice-cream is certainly on par to Breyers and much less expensive.
My whole family now shops there. It’s a must stop after they all came for meals and always asked where I got this and that.
Admission — Here are two items that were no good from Aldi’s. A battery powered string trimmer was just too weak and under powered. Now I am back to my corded one. $40 down the drain.
Also, a garden hose sprayer attachment was not to my liking. I returned it. They have some very nice narrow garden shovels right now. I almost bought one the other day. They are called drain shovels too. IMAGES>>> https://www.bing.com/search?q=drain+shovels&PC=U316&FORM=CHROMN
Here is a fave at Aldis. Their one pound pistachios...and not over salted. Just the right amount. Inexpensive!
Their oven roasted almonds. Zero grease. I get the sea salted ones. Not over salted. Nice price!
Try their baked pita chips that are lightly coated with Parmesan and garlic. Much better for you than potato chips and corn chips. $2.89 where I am. They are in a blue bag.
I already mentioned their ground lamb for $5.50 a pound. I make lamb burgers with it. This item is not always available. But their grass fed beef (ground up) is always there. About $5.50 a pound. No one beats this price.
I also buy lots of my produce there.
Just remember to bring your own.
