P.K. Subban appears to be in hot water after including Lizzo in his commentary Tuesday during the NHL playoffs, with some accusing the former defenseman of taking a shot at the singer’s weight.
When discussing Game 1 of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers’ second-round series, Subban — who retired from professional hockey in September — spoke about what Toronto can do to bounce back following their 4-2 loss to Florida.
“Maybe they need to pack a Lizzo-sized lunch,” Subban said during the ESPN broadcast. “They weren’t prepared in my opinion.”

I’ve watched a little of the playoffs and seeing Subban on the intermission reports, I admire his enthusiasm, his openness and honest assessment of the games played. When the other former players are bland and try to play broadcaster in their corporate dress up, PK is still a fan. And though I am pulling for the Hurricanes, I get a chuckle listening to him pull for his former Devils. He’s a smart guy. Refreshing.
And I assume a “lizzo-sized lunch” is something good and desirable.
