I can’t believe how much Stevie Ray Vaughan’s guitar work sounds like Hendrix. I know Vaughan recorded the same song, but just in general they are so similar.
Hendrix was so damn good.
Just beautiful… Thank you for posting that. Brings back a lot of memories. Hendrix was one of the reasons I picked up a guitar…
Plus… He was 101st airborne.
Stevie Ray was brilliant… The day he died, I heard it on the radio… I left work early, went home, got my guitar out… drank a bottle of Jack Daniels and played blues all day in tribute.
People like that, that bring joy to others, die… And people that truly deserve to die just get to go on making others miserable.
Same with Eddie Van Halen… No wonder I have zero faith anymore.
I remember one time that a song was playing on the radio, and a friend identified the guitar player as Hendrix. It turned out to be Stevie Ray Vaughan. I could have also made the same mistake listening to the song.
They were both superb guitarists who could play whatever they could imagine. Both died too damn young.
Yes, they did. I’m also a big fan of David Gilmour, who was also a great vocalist, and Mark Knopfler.
Unfortunately I never saw SRV, or Knopfler. I don't know Gilmour.
I never saw Hendrix, SRV or Knopfler/Dire Straits. I have seen David Gilmore/Pink Floyd twice.
It’s Hendrix. Nuff said.
I hope God helps you restore your faith.
Sweet post - thanks MtnClimber!
Oh yeah, after hearing the album “Are You Experienced?” - he was right - “I never heard surf music again”!
Those are my guitar “heroes”. They provided me with endless inspiration - all I really ever wanted to do was play like them. So I bought the gear and practiced, performed, and played - all of my adult life.
Alas, the gift, the divine spark, the mojo of musical artistry eluded me. I concentrated so hard on playing like other people that I never achieved my own voice. I was competent as a sort of musical chameleon, mimicking the style of others, and I parlayed that into a very minor career as a musician (playing other peoples stuff).
I have no regrets. I did the best that I could. I entertained people. I had a blast, getting up on stage and making something special come to life. I loved playing the all-ages gigs where I could bring my kids. I would do it all over if I had the chance.
If you really enjoyed doing it, I bet that came through in your performances. I bet you were better than you think you were.
How many hours of bad fake Keith Jarrett did I play? At least I learned to improvise. Somewhat.
I had a few paying gigs, that's it. I needed to be "practical." It might have been a mistake.
Thanks. Gilmour is very good.
This was pretty much what I aspired to, but never achieved, on piano:

Most of that was improvised.
Thanks. Very nice.
