Democrats keep reminding everyone that, yes, they want to ban gas stoves
Washington Examiner ^ | 4/28/23 | David Freddoso

For a time, President Joe Biden 's Consumer Product Safety Commission tried to spread a bogus health scare as a pretext for banning gas stoves. Since then, his Department of Energy has floated a separate proposal (still in play) that would ban almost all models of gas stoves by prescribing such stringent performance standards that 96% of the gas stoves currently on the market would no longer be legal. This, of course, is a ban in all but name.

Despite these efforts, online leftists have made the ludicrous and obviously false claim that no one is trying to ban gas stoves. But even if you could brainwash yourself to forget what has already happened just this year at the federal level, Democratic-controlled states are still out there trying to prove the point: They are in various stages of banning the use of natural gas for cooking or heating. No, this isn't a right-wing conspiracy theory - this is your life.

The latest development comes from New York state. Democrats, who control the governorship and both houses of the state legislature, have included in their 2024 budget an agreement to abolish new gas hookups in stages. Their plan bans gas hookups from new smaller buildings starting in 2025, from new larger buildings (more than seven stories) starting in 2026 and from "industrial and commercial properties" starting in 2029. Similarly, in Northern California, the Bay Area Air Quality District Board voted late last month to ban the installation of new gas-powered water heaters and furnaces starting in 2027 - although this measure does not specifically cover gas stoves.

At least when the states try to take away your gas, they openly admit that their motive is based on global warming alarmism - they don't try to concoct a pretext based on health...

I’m just gonna replace my gas oven with an electric one.

Get an induction stove.

Faster reaction than gas, better control and about 15% less electricity used than electric resistance heating.

Safer.

First they came for my stove.

What's really going on is Demonrats are building an energy monopoly. Once they have that, energy costs get jacked 400%. Electricity is ideal because it can't easily be stored, and can be turned off remotely at the push of a button. Focus groups told them not to go after gas water heaters at this time, but boil the frog incrementally. They have a dream, and it's to make everyone else's life a nightmare.

Well DUH ! Why don’t you just get the proper ventilation hood installed.

Even electric needs a ventilation hood.

Because their designs suck and they are often in the unobtanium category.

I thought about that, thanks. Too many of my favorite pans would not work with induction. But I might get one of the portable single models.

I’m renting. For the lower end cost of installing a ducted vent a hood (necessary for gas) I can buy an electric range and take it to my next place. I have a sad NuTone hood they mounted over stove area but that’s just for (barely) capturing food particles, not exhausting gas combustibles up and out of the place.

Too many of my favorite pans would not work with induction.

That was my wife's objection many years ago to not get one.

Now she wishes she had done it sooner.

Good news is, cast iron works great on induction and we have a lot of cast iron stuff.

But I might get one of the portable single models.

That's what we started with. Nuwave, I think is how it is spelled.

They have a little less power than our stove cook top does, so everything takes a little longer, some a lot longer.

I have a 3KW inverter in our Zeppelin radio shelter on our Unimog, and use the portable ones while camping and at events.
