A 79-year-old Illinois man is accused of fatally shooting his neighbor, all because the man was using a leaf blower, according to authorities.
Ettore Lacchei was arrested on murder charges Tuesday over the killing of his next-door neighbor William Martys, 59, in the village of Antioch on April 12.
Martys was using a leaf blower in his own yard when he was approached by Lacchei and the pair began arguing.
Lacchei allegedly shot Martys in the head around 7:35 p.m., the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said.
When deputies arrived at the home on North Black Oak Avenue, they found Martys bleeding and unresponsive in the driveway. He was rushed to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where he was pronounced dead.

Very true. We tend to assume being elderly means you are somehow nice. In 1963 he might have been a 20 year old A-hole bully and remained one his whole life.
Grandpa’s going to the Iron bar hotel for the rest of what’s left of his life......at 79 I doubt it’ll be more than 5 years or so.......the shock of prison life alone might be all it takes.

I don’t......I’ve seen my share of mean ass old men in my lifetime.....and one or two that were so mean they never made it to the old part......it’s been my studied opinion that you can’t live your life like that and not have life catch up to you eventually......I’ve seen it more than once.
I have the same problem. My neighbor and I have similar trees. she cleans her yard by blowing her tree’s leaves onto my yard. At present I am evaluating my options.
chappaqua ny has “leaf-blower laws” - not sure how draconian, but I think NO ONE can use them at all. “The noise!” why can’t we just live and let live? NY wants to regulate EVERYTHING!!
I just let the wind blow my leaves into the neighbors yard - usually blows from the south and they are north of me...
Looks like you called it. Mean-ass grumpy old man with a history of picking fights with the neighbors and waving a gun around, and the local law enforcement knew about his behavior, but because he hadn’t actually shot anybody yet they hadn’t done anything about him.
Expect the cops to hold a “he was on our radar but until he actually did something, our hands were tied” blame-denial press conference in another day or two.
I have never been able to comprehend the reasoning behind the use of leaf-blowers. I remember my first return visit to the States back in the 1990s, and how I thought, "How is this easier or more-efficient than rakes?!"
Now, I wonder why environmentalists don't excoriate their use. They produce not only major levels of noise pollution - but also create air pollution.

Some people might define "Live and let live" as not disturbing your neighbors with a frightful racket like that. Some might say that "boom boxes" were to be preferred.

Two subjects of the Illinois progressive regime get into an argument and one uses a deadly weapon. Then one of the overlords suggests disarming all the peasants to stop such behavior.
A citizen of a free state who had been threatened once with a firearm might well have been carrying his own and been able to defend himself.

If you come up with a solution let me know. I wrote a letter asking the HOA to enforce their laws that are already on the books. Any lawn waste, including leaves, is to be bagged and put out on the curb for pick-up. She sent an email to all residents reminding them not to blow yard waste into the street. I waited but the same jerks completely ignored it. Not having a tree in my yard it is amazing how I raked almost 30 bags of leaves this fall and winter despite having a rotator cuff tear and 2 strokes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had a neighbor who was obsessed with leaf blowers. You couldn’t use a leaf blower near her house. She swore it aggravated her MS. Her boyfriend would become belligerent at anyone who dared to use one.
Shoot her, it worked for Ettore......
THAT my friend has been EXACTLY what the problem is, the POWER of the pharmaceutical companies to suppress information on these shooting is criminal!! DO NOT ever trust the FDA, CDC, NIH, or ANY of the alphabet agencies for that matter!! WE have NEVER RECEIVED an autopsy report on the pharmaceuticals in these shooters systems, YET we have information from family and friends that MOST were on some sort of psychotropic pharmaceuticals!!!
