XO Planet Ping!.................
If FTL speed is ever achieved for a vehicle then all this will matter. With mankind on it current path our future is totally dim.
These depictions are just that, depictions.
No one has SEEN an exoplanet. They are only purportedly detected by the slight dimming of the light of a distant star as the supposed planet transverses our view of the star.
And by this, “scientists” pretend to be able to size the planet and analyze the atmosphere.
That’s like claiming to know the eye color of a man by his footprints in some mud.
If the article has no mention of Uranus, I don’t want to hear about it.
All you need is a wormhole and a way to get through it.
Then you can slowly walk to the stars.
There is no life beyond earth other than whatever space-surviving virions or bacteria we’ve flung out there on some spacecraft.
Blah, blah, blah...nothing out there. No moon cheese, no Morons on the moon, no man in the moon, nothing but dust out there, everywhere.
Maybe they should CLAIM that they found “life”, just to see if it would stop the canadians from rioting and looting...
You’ve got standards. Give you that.
Does the exoplanet embrace DEI?
Life on other planets would have to be really stupid to send out radio waves so that potential intergalactic enemies would know where to invade.
Only homo sapiens is that dumb.
Only direct imaging will tell us what elements make up a planet’s atmosphere, and if there is oxygen which is a strong indicator of life, since it is a byproduct of photosynthesis.
We need to be using Webb for this.
The Universe is too big, there are too many stars, and so many exoplanets have already been found that the chance of finding life is too certain in my eyes.
It may take more sophisticated technology than we have now, but it will happen eventually.
The arrogance of humans never ceases to amaze.
If we find the XO's planet, will that lead us to the CO's planet?
I'm a big fan of flinging.
We should engineer or select for bacteria that can survive on Mars and Venus. And we should massively seed the planets.
We've flown a drone on Mars. And we have drones capable of spraying. So we just need a drone capable of refueling from a large tank of seed bacteria.
Of course some planning is required. You don't want to put bacteria on Mars that releases oxygen if that oxygen is just going to be stripped away due to the lack of the magnetosphere or some other reason. So maybe we need to build a ring around the planet and a nuclear power plant to create a magnetosphere before we fling bacteria.
You’re in luck. Uranus is mentioned. Go ahead and read it.
“ I’m a big fan of flinging.”
Asimov didn’t recommend it but suggested that a few kilograms of every available species of algae could be seeded throughout the atmosphere of Venus from the highest layers down.
Then we just wait a few centuries until it gets itself terraformed.
