We need to be using Webb for this.
The Universe is too big, there are too many stars, and so many exoplanets have already been found that the chance of finding life is too certain in my eyes.
It may take more sophisticated technology than we have now, but it will happen eventually.

About 3*10^23 according to latest estimates. Or about 10,000 stars for every grain of sand on all the world's beaches. If the odds for life around a single star is one in a trillion, that's still over 100 billion.
