I would think there would be more to it than just FTL speed... Stargate Atlantis imaged it well. A shield was raised when traveling at speeds and although fiction, I would imagine that in reality, a bowling ball size rock hurling along in space would do some pretty hefty damage colliding with a FTL traveling spacecraft!! Just sayin...
