The anguished father spoke at the courthouse where the man accused of killing Kaylin Gillis, Kevin Monahan, was denied bail by a judge. Monahan, 65, appeared in court with a jacket, tie and shackles. He answered questions from the judge, but mostly sat quietly.
Gillis, her boyfriend Blake Walsh and their friends got lost while going to another friend’s nearby house. They were driving two cars and a motorcycle when they turned into Monahan’s long, dirt driveway in the town of Hebron, near the Vermont border.
As they realized the mistake and turned around, Monahan fired with a shotgun...

Both of these recent shootings were by people who appear to have been the neighborhood cranks. Defending them does not help gun owners.
Neither one of those folks should have pulled the trigger.
Too bad Commiefornia ditched the death penalty!
How did you manage to move VT to CA?
this worthless action is what is crippling our right to own and bear arms....
Sorry - VT border with NY..
Something tells me there is a lot more to this story.
This happened in upstate New York. Not sure if it made nationwide news or if this is from some old station with a grandfathered call sign. Had to google those once.
That’s what I think too. Defending bad gun owners does not help good gun owners.
According to the shooter, there is more to the story
It does seem odd that there are several incidents like this recently, when I can’t remember the last time i’d heard of a situation like this.
This man deserves a swift execution.
Too many here are jumping to foregone conclusions. Everyone of you who already judged this guy, you are the problem trying people in the court of public opinion when you don’t have the full story. Very few people his age all of a sudden break bad for no reason. You all are the reason we cant get fair jury trials anymore.
I think she was part of a group revving motors and turning around in his driveway. But you don’t shoot for that.
Somebody else here posted that when people shoot they don’t realize that bullet has to go somewhere. Maybe it was a warning shot, but it still goes somewhere.
These people probably didn’t shoot often or maybe never, so that’s why they didn’t seem to realize this.
That said, they were both the neighborhood cranks. I lived near one once and I was never so happy to move in my life!
The story is all over national news. It's getting a lot of attention.
And all you macho/macha asses who’ve already declared him guilty, if it was a woman who shot a guy in the car, you’d be justifying her shooting the dude: “Well she lives out in the boonies, her house is 300 feet in from the road, they could have wanted to rob rape and kill her. She doesn’t know them.” Ok, hes an old guy way out in the boonies, his house is 300 ft from the road, maybe hes had prior problems with crime, he doesn’t know these trespassers either”...
It wasnt just a simple y-turn into the beginning of the driveway either.
I’m speaking for others, perhaps wrongly, but it’s sort of assumed after a fair trial and all that.
Most people who want an execution without a trial would be over at the democratic underground website and not here.

It’s like everybody has forgotten how the Zimmerman/Travon Martin story was presented for as long as they could get away with it. I have a feeling neither of these shootings will turn out to be as clear cut as they are currently being reported.
The kid's story stinks and even if he did, just, go to the wrong house, the incident had all of the hallmarks of a home invasion robbery.
Any reasonable person can see that.
The 16 year old, far from "fighting for his life" is at home, with a bandaid on his head, playing video games and counting his $3,000,000 in go fund me loot.
The other one does not look justifiable, at all and a beautiful young woman is dead.
As always, I wait a week, before forming an opinion.
The first stories are rarely accurate or truthful.
