Long time Boortz listener from before he was syndicated, or at least wasn’t syndicated much. Late 90s, he still had his real email on his web site, and not a cgi form or similar.
And that sounds like something Boortz would say.
And THAT is the single and ONLY real issue now and forever.
I knew he was going to be Asian. I expect he has other good parts to his application.
Extremely overpriced indoctrination & brainwashing centers. I went to one and it’s much worse now. Sending my kid to the state university.
I know a Federal judge who has blacklisted I think Yale and Berkeley on the hiring of clerks because of their treatment of conservative speakers. There are at least a couple thus.
I knew a math genius.
He left college to go fix Harleys in New Mexico
Victor Davis Hanson reports that Stanford incoming class is 22% white males, almost all of whom are ‘legacies’, offspring of big donors or other prominent alumni, or sons of professors/administrators. Stanford brags about rejecting most applicants with perfect SAT scores.
One kid was accepted into an ivy league school with an essay that said ‘Black Lives matter’ over and over again. That was the essay.
I suppose you're thinking of Manchurian Candidate type situations, but most Asians I know are 2 to 4 generations removed from any foreign bonds, and would never even think to foul American culture if they were in a position to do so.
They are more American than the politicians in DC (although admittedly that's a low bar!).
Reagan, when Governor of California, was told that if he didn’t implement some kind of quota system for the California University system, that the schools would be overrun with Asians.
Reagan’s response was, “I don’t care if every seat is taken by an Asian if they’ve earned the right to be there.”
“I read awhile back that the school more CEOs prefer to hire from is not Ivy. It is Texas A&M.”
Of course. Schools like A&M train workers. The Ivies train the ruling class.
“Most, in fact few, valedictorians have 1590 SATs.”
What does this sentence mean? It makes no sense.
To get into the Ivys you need way more than grades and SATS. You need the extra-curricular, preferably something in the “community service” area, legacy sure helps. Because they’re self prestigious they get to be very very picky. Their reject pile are students other big colleges dream of.
In 2015, my HS Senior son and I went to a college fair and listened to a Harvard admissions person tell us that they receive enough perfect SAT/ACT applications to fill 3X their freshman class.
He can probably get into FSU and get the same great education my two sisters and I got.
He’s being discriminated against because he’s Asian. I think we all understand that. But beyond that, there’s a branding issue that is slowly unfolding. Most of the Ivies are not really special. They are all decent schools but there are several dozen non-Ivies, including the stronger state universities, that are superior as institutions for undergraduate education. The prestige of the Ivies is largely carried by Harvard, Yale and Princeton, and even there it is mostly a reflection of elite faculty who do remarkably little undergraduate teaching. The elite faculty makes these schools meccas for top grad students. Because they attract top grad students, they produce a disproportionate share of the next generation of faculty. But this is irrelevant for most undergrads.
In any event, as the population has grown and as excellent foreign students arrive in ever-greater numbers, there are far more outstanding students than the Ivies could possibly absorb. Public perceptions of university excellence are lagging indicators. The Ivy League myth is ripe to be demolished.
That said, I have great respect for elite faculty who go out of their way to teach undergrads. Those guys are worth their weight in gold. It’s not that undergrads are magically uplifted by having a Nobel laureate as a professor. It’s more a matter of demystifying the status bubble that can surround the superstars in an academic hothouse environment. “Yes, I have a Nobel prize and innumerable other top honors, but I’m still just a professor. You can make an appointment and come see me in office hours. I’m not too good to talk to you, and I’m in the stands dying with you as our football team gets humiliated again by some football factory with zero academic standards.”
The guy should write Musk and ask to follow him around. Everywhere.
THAT would be college
There may be many more valedictorians than slots in Ivy League schools, but when you have the combination of valedictorian and 1590 SATs, that is an outstanding combination. Valedictorians from inner city high schools might be functionally illiterate, but this kid is obviously an outstanding individual.
My wife’s cousin’s kid had a 4.0 GPA in Engineering from Cornell (an Ivy League school) and was not (initially) accepted into any medical school. He is a straight white male. Draw your own conclusions.
I recall reading that only a small fraction of students accepted at Princeton last year were white males. The Ivies are ditching merit for “diversity”.
