Federal investigators on Wednesday announced the arrest of seven Massachusetts men who they say are responsible for stealing at least $2 million in catalytic converters from vehicles across New England in recent months.

Rafael “Robin Hood” Davila, 35, of Feeding Hills, Jose “Goldy” Torres, 37, of Springfield, Nicolas Davila, 25, of Springfield, Jose “Charlito” Fonseca, 26, of Springfield, Zachary Marshall, 26, of Holyoke, Santo Feliberty, 34, of Springfield, and Alexander “Dirty” Oyola, 37, of Springfield, have been charged with conspiracy to transport stolen property in interstate commerce, interstate transportation of stolen property, conspiracy to commit bank theft, bank theft, and money laundering conspiracy, according to United States Attorney Rachael S. Rollins.

During an investigation into “Operation Cut and Run,” which involved more than 70 regional police departments and federal agencies, officials were able to determine that the suspects were allegedly involved in the theft of catalytic converters from at least 471 vehicles across Massachusetts and New Hampshire in 2022 and 2023 alone. However, investigators noted that they believe a significant number of additional thefts have not been identified or were not ever reported to law enforcement.

Rafael Davila, the crew leader who planned and participated in all of the thefts on a full-time basis, provided transportation to each targeted vehicle, determined price values for stolen converters, and purchased materials needed to cut the converters off cars, according to charging documents. On numerous occasions, the defendants targeted more than 10 vehicles in a single night, with one night reporting thefts from 26 vehicles, investigators said.

I can’t tell you how much I hate those thieves.
So I won’t.

Same with identity thieves.

None of this would be happening if the federal fascists didn’t “mandate” (mandate is a law that was not lawfully passed by an elected legislature) these idiot devices to begin with.

I assume all Hispanics, who speak Spanish as first language, are illegal until proven otherwise.

In Massachusetts they might very easily be Puerto Rican than Mexican. For the longest time there were more PRs in the northeast than Mexicans.

Since the left loves to create hate crimes can we classify this as an environmental hate crime?

Cut their balls off and stuff ‘em down their throats. (That’s how I feel about it, anyway.)

Try driving on I-91 south bound (downhill) from Holyoke MA to Hartford CT... I call it the Puerto Rican Grand Prix.

An amazing display of horrible, disrespectful driving at high speed in (of course) souped-up and tinted-out Japanese vehicles.

Oh, and at night... no headlights on, car after car, for some probably gang-related tough guy reason.

I had a landlord years ago who referred to Puerto Rico as “that little island responsible for all the crime here”

They were stealing them off school busses here in CT. Must have been easy targets over nights and weekends.

If you’re a child of the 60s then you grew up before there were catalytic converters, and you likely remember the smells back then. I sure do.

As to the problem, it’s already a FEDERAL FELONY to tamper with pollution control equipment on a car - so why not apply it to these people, as most owners are forced to put in a ‘bypass pipe’ until they finally find a replacement.

The feds, if they wanted to, could stop this crime wave overnight - just pull a few of the thousands of agents who keeping hunting for non-existent ‘white supremacists’ or are assigned to sites like this to shill for Ukraine.

So I’m guessing they’re charged with the highest return for them. According to web search they can get 150- 1500 each. That’s insane. I thought they started regulating this at scrap yards. Thankfully Noone in my family has had an issue so far. We’re rural burbs of Atlanta.

For sure - had the experience of finding myself behind a '66 Mercury station wagon a year ago, and the smell triggered a huge flashback of nostalgia.

Wouldn't doubt a LOT of cancers were caused by that blue haze.

What were the nicknames of all the cops who arrested them? That’s the real story.

That grand prix re-emerges in New Haven, as you might imagine. The cat thieves down here will shout about how your insurance will cover it as they’re making their getaway.

A “double-tap” to the head of a few of the thieving gang members will reduce their numbers quite a bit. Laws should be passed to state that stopping such a theft in progress is considered self-defense of property and a right to stop a Constitutional violation against the ability to move freely to participate in commerce and society.

Occasionally I read a story where the jack fell and the perp was crushed under the vehicle of which he was stealing the converter. Such stories make me smile.
