WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration will propose strict new automobile pollution limits this week that would require at least 54% of new vehicles sold in the U.S. to be electric by 2030 and as many as two of every three by 2032, according to industry and environmental officials briefed on the plan.

LOL!
Prediction: It will precipitate a huge move to preserve older ice cars. I would invest in high-end transmission rebuilders and premium wear parts for popular older cars.
Our economy is being planned by a 15 yr old girl.
We routinely lease a new BMW every three years....
We currently lease a 2021 540i, which is the finest and most balanced car I've ever driven...
The lease is up next year and the car has only 15K miles...for the first time I'm going to buy and own the car at lease end.
Considering the wild and escalating used car market, this will be one of the best investments I've ever made-
App dev? Real estate dev? Other?
Not that it really matters. Bad idea no matter what.
It is not even the Lithium mining that is the real problem. Lithium is actually a very small portion of the batteries.
It is the amount of Copper, Nickel and Cobalt required in much higher quantities than are mined today. According to some sources the world would have to increase the extraction of these minerals roughly 10x their current amount. Plus these minerals are all extracted using diesel powered equipment. Except for the Cobalt that primarily comes from the Congo where child labor is employed to dig the mineral out of the ground. Then that same mineral is trucked to a port where it is loaded on a vessel(which also runs on diesel) and shipped to where it is refined in China.
Never in the history of the world(even WWII) did we increase the production of any specific mineral 10x.
So, these politicians can say we are going to mandate this by 2035, it just has absolutely no chance of happening.
Toyota knows this. That is why they are not going full in on EVs. The product that makes the most sense to the AVERAGE consumer is a plug in Hybrid.
True -- So time to buy stock in Tesla: the only company whose very existence depends on their own innovation to bring EV's to a price and convenience point where the masses can embrace the concept... and I think there will actually get there over time.
Meanwhile, if this rule gets enacted, expect at least one of the Big Three to make a deal with Tesla to buy 'offsets' so that they can sell more ICE cars (at a lower percentage of the coming EPA rule) while Tesla continues with 100% EV sales.
You are missing the point. They have no interest in greatly increasing the production of EVs. They just want to greatly reduce the production of ICEs so that the sheeple are forced to ride mass transit.
As a bonus, Rich democrats will be able to ride around in $100K EVs without having to worry about traffic.
All so true... as I'm personally awaiting a new engine to be installed in my 2011 Expedition. That should reset its clock for another decade of service.
Now, more than ever.
Poor investment if fuel is $20.00/gal.
Joe don't know what F'in day it is...let alone the year.
My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
And hop the turbine freight
To far outside the wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits
[Chorus]
Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty-odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream
[Verse 2]
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better, vanished time
We fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime
[Bridge]
Wind in my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware
[Interlude]
[Verse 3]
Suddenly, ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air-car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase
[Chorus]
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I’ve got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside
I own 4 cars. All of them older. All of them gas powered. 1961, 1998, 1999, 2006.......
I got a feeling that the price of used ICE cars will skyrocket.
What if 54% don’t want an electric coal powered car Joe?
They’ll buy nothing and destroy the car business and your stupid plans.
I understand Bubba. I just do not believe it will happen. It would collapse the economy.
Are all the ships, trains, planes, farm equipment, construction equipment, tractor trailers also going to run on batteries powered by solar panels and wind mills?
No, they all run on diesel fuel or aircraft fuel.
Are we going to stop using all things made out of plastics and every other petroleum product?
The bidenites want to deprive most of us of cars, and crowd us into inner-city high-rises!!!!
PRAY and RESIST!!!!
Electrical engineers and software developers. I agree, it is never a good idea to have Central Control of anything.
