A 50-year-old woman was arrested in France after she referred to the country's president Emmanuel Macron as "garbage" in a Facebook post. The woman will face a criminal trial for publicly insulting the president, Daily Express UK reported. The woman had posted a picture of graffiti saying "Macron Garbage" on the social media platform, the report said, adding that police were quick to arrest her following the post.
"I asked them if it was a joke. It's the first time I've been arrested." I'm an activist for social justice. They want to make an example of me. I am not public enemy number one," the woman told Voix du Nord.
“This is totally unfair. We are going through a period when intimidation is strong, and activists are threatened," she added.
The arrest comes as sanitation workers in Paris began to return to work ending a strike against French president Emmanuel Marcon’s widely unpopular pension bill. Protesters called for his resignation as he faced the biggest challenge of his second term in office.
Meanwhile, Emmanuel Macron announced new water-saving measures for the country brushing aside the protests.

Yes, but the approach will be slightly different. Awhile back a Democrat state legislator (from Virginia?) proposed a bill that would make criticism of an elected official illegal. The argument was that such criticism could motivate someone to attack the official. Kinda like yelling fire in a crowed theater.
That bill died (as it should have). But you can bet that the idea is quite alive. They’ll try it again and again until something sticks.
