Regina Itzani, broke her arm when she jumped from the fiery gondola. Despite her broken arm and second-degree burns, Itzani is expected to survive, the Daily Mail said.

The family, from the city of Caujimalpa de Morelos, was on a joyride over the pre-Hispanic ruin site of Teotihuacan, a popular tourist area.

It’s not clear if a pilot was on board the balloon, which appeared to still be tethered to the ground.

The bystander’s video showed the basket flooded with flames. The balloon wilted quickly after, and the gondola hurtled to the ground as occupants appeared to either fall out or jump out.

Mexican police said Sunday they are still investigating what caused the fire, the outlet said. Although initial local reports said it could be linked to the fuel storage system.

Although there are about 3,000 hot air balloons each year across the world...fatalities remain rare.

From 2000 to 2016, there were only 21 recorded deaths in the United States...

Hot air balloons carry lots of propane, so figuring out a fire in one shouldn’t be too daunting.

My purely speculative guess. A propane leak and somebody was smoking.

What evidence about Hillary Clinton was the balloon in possession of?

Nothing would protect a balloon rider from a 100 ft drop, but do most such riders wear any protective clothing or padding at all?

I took a ride in one once. It was fun, but we had a slightly rough landing in a residential area not far from the Unser’s place in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque. The wind kicked up at an inopportune moment, so we had to get down quickly.

That was back in January of ‘95, so it’s been a while!

“was on a joyride over the pre-Hispanic ruin site”
“appeared to still be tethered to the ground”
Facts are hard, but you can’t be doing both of these things simultaneously.

"My purely speculative guess. A propane leak and somebody was smoking."

That isn't speculation, that's insinuation of incompetence and/or carelessness.

Well they do shoot 5 foot flames out or whatever. Smoking would be way, way down the list of worries, by definition.

Just carelessness.

Most “Accidents” are actually carelessness or incompetence - actually over confidence. I am no better than than anyone else in that regard
