Deep within the heart of Yellowstone National Park lies an imminent threat. The tranquility of the park is shattered by the ominous signs of a colossal volcano waking from its slumber. The recent sudden uplift of the ground has sent shockwaves through the scientific community and sparked a sense of unease across the entire nation. Despite Yellowstone's history of sporadic eruptions, nothing could have prepared us for this unprecedented and terrifying event. As the park officials take drastic measures to safeguard visitors, the question that remains on everyone's mind is: Will this slumbering giant awaken and unleash an unimaginable catastrophe? Follow us on this perilous journey as we delve into the mysteries of Yellowstone and uncover the truth behind the recent closure of the park. Yellowstone National Park may seem like a serene and picturesque location, but it's anything but ordinary. Established in 1872, Yellowstone is known as the world's first National Park, and it's also home to the Yellowstone Caldera that has been closely monitored by scientists since 1923. The caldera is a massive basin that sits at the peak of the Yellowstone volcano, and it's often referred to as a "supervolcano." According to the Natural History Museum in London, this term is used because the Yellowstone Caldera has the potential to unleash a magnitude-eight eruption on the Volcanic Explosivity Index. This kind of eruption could discharge more than 1,000 cubic kilometers (240 cubic miles) of material. To put that into perspective, the famous eruption of Mount Pinatubo in the Philippines in 1991, which is considered one of the most powerful volcanic eruptions in recent history, was only rated a 6 on the same index. That means that the Yellowstone supervolcano eruption could be over 100 times more powerful than the one at Mount Pinatubo!

Speaking of math challenged, 15.5 is the square root of 240, not the cube root.
You are correct. I was thinking everything between Yellowstone and the river. It didn’t occur to me right away that the areas west of the area would be largely spared.
Anyway….it’s a fun mental exercise. But in reality it’s one of those “it’s just too big and bad” to get excited about.
I guess the east coast shouldn’t put away their snow shovels.
yeah but they live in Jellystone so they’ll be fine.

Yeah! N0! Jellystone is just 305 miles to the north and would be in the 1st wave kill zone.
I suggest immediate action be taken to preserve those natural treasures. I will start a ‘go fund me’ page.
The friggan idiots!
Went and visited the Long Valley Caldera last fall and ran into a couple guys taking samples there for the USGS keeping an eye on that one.
I had a nice discussion with those kids. Managed to give them a little info on the Midcontinent rift or Keweenawan Rift which they had heard of, but never got a chance to really read up on it. The study of geology is so vast that one has to concentrate on a specific thing and try to gather “some” information on other things as one goes along.
It was right about the time the minor earthquakes were hitting OK and TX. We all agreed that since that rift is still rebounding from the glaciers, that earthquakes will most likely occur for century’s along that region.
Up at Eagle Harbor in the UP of Michigan, you can stand on the exposed crust of the earth, meaning if you try and dig to get under that rock, you wont be able to, it IS the earths crust. Not sediment, but the actual crust. It just happens to be very thick.
And low and behold..a while ago one of these panic punks put up a click bait post on youtube claiming a hot spot under that crust. YA there was! Over a billion years ago!
Quite ironic about “math challenged.” You mean a 1-mile high SQUARE 15.5 miles on each side. The cube root of 240 is about 6.21.
Oh...snap...lol
Thank you for calling me out!!
Who’s the moron?
...um...that would be me
Dammit!
I’m blaming beer
Thank you for calling that... lol
(Emily Patella voice)...”never mind”
6.2 miles on a side.
Now time for more beer and Les Nesmond
You expect us to believe a government agency? They only tell us what they want us to know. (See UFOs, our banking system, and our illustrious FBI).
Jet stream generally blows west to east.😎
Not refundable haha...You bought it, you keep it!
see post 61.
I owned it Mr Rubitinski =o)
No worries. What’s a dimension one way or the other? Enjoy the beer. Might have one myself.
That was the second of two snot bubbles I laughed into my beer today.
Thank you for that.
Cheers
I see what you did there
