Ford Motor's new plant being constructed outside Memphis, Tennessee, will be capable of building 500,000 electric vehicles annually at full production, the company said Friday.
The first and only product to be announced thus far for the "BlueOval City" plant is a next-generation electric truck, which Ford has code-named "T3," short for "TrustTheTruck."
"Project T3 is a once in-a-lifetime opportunity to revolutionize America's truck," Ford CEO Jim Farley said Friday in a release. "It will be a platform for endless innovation and capability."
Additional products using Ford's next-generation EV architecture could be produced alongside the truck, however a company spokesman declined to comment on future product plans for the plant.
Ford and South Korea-based battery supplier SK On are investing $5.6 billion in the BlueOval City campus, including a large battery cell plant. Production at the plants is on track to begin in 2025, Ford said Friday.

Re: More to this story?
If climate change is involved, massive government subsidies are also involved!
Mother of all bailouts.
They are going to have to create another “boneyard” in the desert to store all the EVs, like is done with aircraft taken out of service.
The infrastructure to support large numbers of EVs does not exist. Batteries suck, insufficient charging stations, limited range and very poor performance in very cold/hot temperatures.
IMO, Auto mfr.s are locating new facilities in Southern States to escape high taxes and damned unions.
short for “TrustTheTruck.”
Tell me this isn’t a faith based religion.
EVs failed a hundred years ago and they had less shortcomings then.
We are living in a time of gigantic delusion.
And should EV's become standard, watch electricity rates go off the scale. All the gasoline tax revenue will be gone, and something must fill that vacuum to satisfy the government's lust to rob your wallet.
To big to fail.
No one would do this unless they were backed by the government.
How many of these will be fleet sales to the public sector?
Inquiring minds want to know.
If some/many/most of these are intended for fleet sales to the public sector, we are all buying.
Do you have a reference to any Toyota Exec mentioning DeSantis by name?
No room at Kentucky Motor Speedway.
Full of chipless trucks.
It has been reported that Ford loses $9,000 per EV sale. That goes a long way towards explaining why their average pick-up costs north of $40 grand and there are almost no incentives offered to new purchases. Ford is trying to make up their losses with ICE volume. Good luck with that! How many folks want to pay more for a new truck that costs more than their first house?
“ massive government subsidies are also involved!”
Federal debt $33 trillion…$40 trillion…$50 trillion…$75 trillion…$100 trillion….Total economic collapse.
How about golf carts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It’s the only small vehicle possibly electric that makes any sense.
A few thousand dollars versus tens of thousands to purchase.
The grid to charge them is already established.
They are limited use, for short term travel, to the grocery store.
...or the golf course.
Same with an EV so why pay so much. When we reach that plateau in life it won’t be keeping up with the jones’s or some dummy crats desire to see you in an EV.
Ford only builds the electric lightning truck to special order. Recently there were over 1,000 lightning trucks for sale on Ford dealer lots. This means that when the truck was delivered the buyer refused to take ownership. Why? My guess is the word is out that the truck, although awesome with a full battery, has not lived up to expectations.
As someone who uses my truck as a truck, rather than a statis symbol, I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve put an unexpected extra hundred miles on it. This is because I’ll be working a job and suddenly realize I need to drive fifty miles each way to get some tool or materials. I suppose I could neatly plan those trips but if I have clients expecting to take possession tomorrow and I find a bunch of rotten beams I won’t be able to repair once they’re in house, well...there you go. Can’t do that with an electric truck. Also, calculating every trip to the last mile would add a level of extra stress I really don’t need.
Even those H1-Bs didn’t cross an ocean to be even more of a serf than they were at home.
Something leftist elites never understand is motivation that doesn’t involve the robbing, cheating, and defrauding the ruling elites engaged in to get where they are. To them, the middle class is stupid because it is largely honest.
They believe they can impoverish the middle class and they will still train themselves to do the same careers, because that’s just what they do.
But if subsistence farming pays the exact same as being an engineer, subsistence farming is the smarter option. Not only does it require less effort and expense up front, for a serf the ability to feed your family is of far greater importance than educating yourself in some abstract way that no longer provides any concrete benefit.
The H1-Bs may be cheaper than a native engineer, but they still have a far better lifestyle than the serfs the ruling elites want to turn them into.
You raise a good point about unexpected miles. The real mileage killer is hauling a trailer. Range is cut by half...
