A SOCIAL media post has stirred up controversy amongst grocery shoppers after learning they've been using the checkout divider wrong.
The debate was sparked by Region 8 Chief Meteorologist Ryan Vaughan on Facebook after sharing a split image of a checkout lane with the divider in the correct and wrong positions.

"You need to put it long ways to trip the sensor AND keep a distance. Some of y’all use it as a privacy fence."
The post sparked a mixed reaction among shoppers as some were left speechless, while others found it pointless.
"I’ve literally never seen it used this way… 😬," one shopper commented.
Another person wrote: "I’ve worked in the grocery business for 19 years and I’ve never seen this lol 😂 🤷🏻♀️."
An ex-Walmart employee said: "I worked at Walmart 9 years and never once saw someone do it this way 💀."
However, other shoppers believe it doesn't matter how you place the divider because the groceries on the lane trip the sensor.
"FYI, the groceries trip the sensor," one woman said.
"The divider is there to tell the cashier where your groceries stop. If you were supposed to leave 2 feet in between orders you wouldn't need a divider."
"Actually it doesn't matter which way you put it because your own groceries will stop it," a second person wrote.
A grocery store wrote shared: "As a cashier supervisor who is on the floor full time, please don't."
This is stupid. No one does this.

In today’s world putting in on wrong could be a capital offense.

I thought that thing was to be used as a cattle prod, when the person is front of you is too slow?
Comedian Robert Klein (became an actor in The Owl and the Pussycat, Primary Colors and other films and TV cop shows as a lawyer) had a routine which included: “In case they don’t have a divider and the cashier keeps asking again and again for the other guy’s stuff ‘was this flour yours’ ‘are these cookies yours, sir’ I always buy some fruit first. Then I put down a row of oranges to mark my territory.”
I am against walls of all types because my progressive friends say that they’re evil.
Therefore I refuse to use checkout dividers.

That one does matter if you have little kids or cats in the house. Both will pull the outside of the roll down resulting in paper all over the floor. It’s much easier to roll moor paper it’s installed that way.
Furthermore I have the right to take anything I want from somebody else’s cart. I mean, it’s not like they’ve paid for it yet.
I never use them either.
Wonder, just between us, if you learned that prod business from having a shiv ready for the slowness of the guy ahead of you in the cafeteria line in juvenile detention? Just kidding.
The first grocery item behind the separator will trip the sensor. This freak is just trying to make groceries social distance.

I thought this an example of Liberal mindset; creating problems and issues where they didn’t exist before.
It depends upon what you want to maximize. I wish to maximize the convenience of the person who follows me, giving them the earliest time to their access to the belt.
