Flight 6013 was destined for Columbus, Ohio, from Las Vegas on Wednesday when a medical emergency broke out mid-flight.
One of the pilots urgently required medical attention, leaving only one pilot in a position to fly the plane.
But thankfully the off-duty pilot from another airline was on board and ready to step in at a moment's notice.
The latest incident follows a string of reports where pilots have been taken ill mid-flight. Aviation watchers have said this was the fifth time in just three weeks.
The U.S. Department of Transportation released a safety alert for aircraft operators yesterday, waring that 'several highly visible and notable recent events demonstrate the need for continued vigilance and attention to mitigation of safety risks'.
'While the overall numbers do not reflect an increase in incidents and occurrences, the potential severity of these events is concerning,' it added.
Just this year, there have been six serious runway incursions in the past three months.

He shouldn’t have had the fish.
The rumor goes that the ultra wealthy only hire the non-vaxxxed pilots for their private jets.
Must have had the Lasagna.
” ... the overall numbers do not reflect an increase in incidents and occurrences, ...”
I heard that the FAA changed their policy on pilot EKG’s and increased the limit on the number of EKG-shown problems to be able to still qualify. Whether this change was vaxx related, I do not know.
You are correct and yes it is vaxx related. Too many pilots would be grounded under the old regime. They moved the requirements by an order of magnitude, not some minor tweak.
The government is out to kill every last one of us.
"Are you telling us everything?"
"Not exactly. We're also out of coffee."
LOL...such a classic! I need to rewatch it again. So many jokes just flash by.
The vaxxxxxxx has killed more people than Teslas that caught on Fire. If I owned a jet, I would only have non-vaxxxxed pilots. If I owned a Tesla, I would park it outside my mansion.
For next gen Teslas, they should install a battery uncoupling switch. Or a manual way of disconnecting the battery. These are sold ($5) for normal cars with standard lead acid batteries.
“numbers do not reflect an increase in incidents and occurrences”
“Incidents and occurrences” is quite a broad term in aviation! LOL. That statement means nothing nothing to me.
So much for Buttygig’s annual FAA flight physicals.
Not rumor. The WEF meeting just recently required any pilots to be unvaxxed.
Over Macho Grande?
That particular phrase is referring to the number of near miss collisions on takeoff/landing or on the tarmac.
Let’s see some proof of your statement.
“For next gen Teslas, they should install a battery uncoupling switch. Or a manual way of disconnecting the battery.”
Obviously, you have not done your homework.
You might be out of your lane here, Doc
