Can’t recall the title but I read an autobiography of a Soviet artillery officer in WW2. In the first few chapters he speaks of his childhood. His family lived in Ukraine and survived the Holodomor. He stated the way the Communists selectively starved many and fed some was very effective and simple. Everyone was issued ration cards by the state, all restaurants and stores were policed by military and one had to present the card to enter. Those selected to die were limited or refused.
His family was Jewish and had connections to the communist party so they were admitted and allowed to buy food profusely. Now don’t think me a Jew hater and conspiracy nut. I listen to several conservative talk shows and my favorite ones are mostly Jews:
