Norman Steinberg, the co-writer of the Mel Brooks-fronted comedy “Blazing Saddles” and an Emmy winner for Flip Wilson’s 1970s variety show, has died. He was 83.
Deadline reported Wednesday that Steinberg’s family said he died March 15, but did not provide further details.
The Post has contacted a rep for Steinberg for comment. “It’s a sad day when Norman Steinberg leaves us. From BLAZING SADDLES to MY FAVORITE YEAR, he was one of the best writers I ever worked with,” Brooks, 96, tweeted Wednesday.

It was, indeed, hilarious. And, yes, it would be taboo today.
It was farcical to be sure, and it did strain the audience willingness to suspend disbelief. So funny, we did so willingly.
That said, it truly fell apart at the end. The last 20 or so minutes fell off the ledge.
And that said, several superior performances, most especially that of Madeline Kahn.

When I had a VCR I had that movie on VHS. When I got a DVD player, Blazing Saddles was the very first movie I bought for it. Years later when I got a Blu-ray player for Christmas, the very next day I went out and found Blazing Saddles for that. A few years after that I got my first iPad... and the very first movie to get loaded on it was Blazing Saddles. I'm now on my second iPad Pro and the movie is on that too.
My dad passed away a few years ago and I'll always cherish the memories of watching this movie with him. It never failed to crack him up no matter how many times he saw it.

It was meant to go off the rails. The movie had become so outrageous, it could no longer contain itself. So it literally burst through the walls and onto the rest of the Warner Bros lot. I think Brooks and his other writers painted themselves into a corner trying to top one thing after another until finally the movie busted at the seams and we got that ending. They wanted it to do that. Just my .02

One of my favorite comedies of all time. All you can show of it in today’s world is the opening and closing credits. BTW, black people in my age group thought it was funny too.

It’s strange that the turd rollers down at BLM never whined and cried about that movie being “wasist”.
A few bands and people who covered Walt Disney’s “wasist” song, “Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah”.
Louis Armstrong
Bing Crosby
Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans
The Dave Clark Five
James Baskett
The Jackson 5
Just to name a few.

Tried watching History of the World, Part II series on Hulu. Couldn’t finish the third episode. That's about as far as I've watched... still trying to decide to go further. I can still see Mel's spark in some scenes, but a lot of it just falls short.
