The medical establishment's prescription? Every doctor must be the same race as every patient!
Apparently, the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has taken the lead in accelerating progress toward Personalized Health Care.
So we are on the same page, let us use this definition of Personalized Health Care (emphasis in the original):
Personalized health care (PHC) is an overarching framework for care that unifies predictive technologies with an engaged patient to coordinate care with the primary aim of promoting health and preventing disease. PHC focuses on patient-centered health care, personalized health planning (PHP), shared decision-making, and patient engagement. It seeks to remedy spending on chronic care by encouraging healthy behavior and planning.
It looks as if the American College of Surgeons has chosen to advance PHC by suggesting, if not requiring, that to accomplish the above benefits, racial likeness between provider and patient is necessary.
Tucker Carlson interviewed a plastic surgeon from Florida, one Richard Bosshardt. According to the doc:
The ACS leadership went to war against itself. ... It declared the ACS ... to be structurally racist. It also went on to say that surgeons are racists and even the practice of surgery is racist. What this did is, it produced a type of messaging that now states that, as you clearly put, it's best if patients are treated by surgeons of their own race.
Bosshardt, ostensibly, was interviewed because of an op-ed he authored that was published by the WSJ in September of 2022. It is behind a paywall. In it, he wrote:
The American College of Surgeons apparently believes its members are racially biased and provide worse care to patients of color than we do to white patients, leading to disparate health outcomes.

Some time later,when I started my own career in hospital administration,I learned that all surgeons are very much Type A (meaning SOBs).

Personally I would go for the #2 or # 3 surgeon. My sister was getting an implant done by the leading doctor in that field, well published and sought after. I recommended that she pick another Doc, she ignored my advice. While the surgery went well, the doctor spent very little time with her as he was too busy and wasn’t available to respond to her recovery questions.
So, what happens when white and asian MD’s start refusing to see Black patients?
Or, in the ER, “sorry, dude, we only have an Indian Surgeon on right now. We will need to call in a .... MD to treat your gun shot/ heart attack/ etc.. Shouldn’t be more than a day or so for them to get here...”
I am sick to death of all this quack quack quack about racism.

Here’s an idea: Give patients the right to pick their own doctors and then get out of the way.
Some years ago I got a hoot out of reading that when Castro developed a serious medical problem he didn’t stay in Cuba,which according to American Maoists had the best health care system in the world,but instead he went to Spain. Of course he would have come here if he wasn’t afraid of being prosecuted for various crimes.
I love Dr Applebaum’s sarcastic writing tone. He finishes in fine ken:

My local hospital has 600 plus certified physicians of all types.
There is one black doctor and from his name I guess he is from Africa.
There are so many Asians I lost count; including a bunch of Drs. Patel
On TV the long running ER show is full of black doctors, because the program was created by an Oprah acolyte. This is a typical attempt to bend realty to what the progressives believe should be; not what is.
They need to apologize to to Orval Faubus and Bull Connor, one would expect.
That’s probably not the way to bet
The last thing I care about the surgeon doing heart surgery on my heart is his or her race.
(Except maybe the Irish around St. Patrick’s Day. )

Precisely the argument for merit based advancement. How long before we start to look at BIPOC physicians as Tokens? Disturbing.
Make them work only on non BIPOC individuals? That’ll learn ‘em. 😵💫🐂💩
These race baiters need to just stop. None of us are racist. We are just trying to live our lives and be the best people we can be. The last thing we want to worry about is if it is racist to go to a doctor that happens to match our same skin color. Good grief!
