It is always happy hour in Helsinki!

Finland was dubbed the world’s happiest nation for the sixth consecutive year in the annual World Happiness Report, released Monday.

The list is largely based on Gallup World Poll evaluations on matters such as GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom, generosity, and corruption.

“Citizens of Finland’s strong feelings of communal support and mutual trust” were factors in helping the country navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and again grab the top spot, authors of the study wrote.

“Additionally, Finlanders felt strongly that they were free to make their own choices, and showed minimal suspicion of government corruption. Both of these factors are strong contributors to overall happiness,” the report continued.

A Finn by the name of Erki Kulamaki told me it’s warm in Finland because of the Gulf Stream. (!)

Could’ve fooled me!

Having vacationed there (in Helsinki) for ten days....I will say this:

1. There wasn’t any place in Helsinki that I felt unsafe (day or night).

2. Buses and trains run as advertised...are clean, and reasonable for the cost.

3. Winter weather is brisk, and if I were from some Middle-East climate...I’d be gone by the end of first winter.

4. People generally eat at home, and eating out is a slight luxury because of the cost factor.

A culturally and racially homogeneous country with a shared language and ethos goes a long way toward making a happy country.

Are the politicians actually honest or are the people just fooled?

They were introduced to TexMex Chili so that they didn't have to eat blood dumpling soup anymore. Changed their whole attitude to one of gratitude.

I was quite surprised to learn that Finnish is not a Nordic language but rather a Uralic one. A language from which Hungarian is based on.
