The paratrooper, who joined the Golden Knights in 2020 and had more than 1,000 jumps under his belt with the Army, was injured Monday during training at Homestead Air Reserve Base in Homestead, the Army said.
A team spokesman told the Miami Herald that Kettenhofen experienced a “bad landing” after a “routine jump.”
“The U.S. Army Parachute Team is deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own,” Lt. Col. Andy Moffit, Golden Knights Parachute Team commander, said in a statement.
The Golden Knights comprise several expert units, including parachute teams, pilots and people who work behind the scenes on logistics.
In the past five years, several members have been seriously injured in parachuting accidents over Homestead, including three who performed a night dive over the base in February 2019, the Herald reported.

They used to play that song over the loudspeaker every morning at Jump School.
It’s the curse of closing down HAFB...
I remember an incident in the early 90s in which a very experienced skydiver had jumped with students a few times already that day. He forgot to put on his parachute. Filmed with his helmet cam all the way to the ground.
Oh, that is great.
If he didn’t pack his chute, he may want to find out who did.
Since he's dead, he probably knows who packed it and more.
You can induce what is known as a dynamic stall, then full flight recovery. During one of those maneuvers at an airshow I saw the chute dive low, I could see the horizon over the trailing edge of the canopy, then the foil’s pilot chutes wrapped around the lower lines, cutting my canopy in half. pucker factor.
I started pulling lines until it unraveled. I never did that maneuver again.
Jumpers always pack their own chutes. Reserver canopies are packed by a licensed rigger.
