“So the parents spent most of her college money on what they wanted (without asking her permission), plus they did the same with her sister’s fund. Seems like her parents lack morals.”
So, it is their money. Your morals suck since you think children should dictate what parents do with their own money.

No it was not their money, it was inheritance from her deceased Great Aunt specifically for her to go to college which the parents pilfered.
It doesn't sound that way. Great Aunt made HER money available for college funding. What vehicle...it doesn't say other than inheritance in some account...which the parents "managed to get access to." It could be a case of theft. Also, asking permission should have been their first step if they intended non-college funding expenditures.
My opinion the girl's lawsuit may have merit.
If you had read the article, you would know the funds were left for the nieces for college. The parents were, in effect, holding it “in trust”.
It was not their money to spend however they wished.
No, it was her money, willed to her.
It wasn’t spent for her benefit. It was spent for their benefit.
They were custodians of that inheritance. It was not theirs to spend.
I don't think you read the post completely. According to the post, the money was left to the child by a great aunt specifically to pay for her schooling. Apparently, the parents had access to the fund (presumably because she was a minor at the time she received the money), and the parents helped themselves to it to pay for other things.
So does your stupid attitude. It's not their money and never was. go read the article and get back with us......
it was the girls inheritance. Parents stole from her.

Code Toad,
I really do hope that you are not a teacher to any child, not in control of any child’s monies, not in the Legal, Telecommunications, or Therapy Communities.
Based upon you posting, you can not read nor comprehend the written word; at least, not in the current language we are corresponding upon this particular site.
She was left this money in a legal and binding manner. Her parents simply had access to the money.
A very, very, different meaning. You really should look up the two differences.
As for ethics.....ugh....
Your comprehension needs work. Her Great Aunt left her the money to be used for school. She did so because she knew education for females was not a priority in their culture. The parents stole that money. If in the past the girl allowed parents some access under specific circumstances does not amount to a blanket permission to use it as they saw fit.
Which, as a former accountant I can assure you is a totally different thing.
I had access to millions of dollars, could write check for up to $10,000 without countersign, but it was in no ways mine.
Actually, had you read the article, you would find that it was not their money. It was an inheritance for the girl's education from an aunt. Apparently the parents banked it in their own names.
“So, it is their money.”
Sometimes it’s good to read the article. Just sayin’...
