A bill backed by Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis that would restructure higher education and eliminate diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) programs from college curriculum advanced in the state House.

Sponsored by state Rep. Alex Andrade, the bill, known as HB 999, was approved along a 12-5 party line vote by the House Postsecondary Education and Workforce Subcommittee Monday.

It now advances for discussion before the state Senate later this week.

I moved to Florida well before DeSantis appeared on the scene.
No state income tax and warm weather attracted me. Those are the same reasons richer people from blue states are moving here in bigger numbers now.

I never understood why one needs Ed degree to teach math, physics and chemistry in schools.

Your warnings are quite valid. You asked "Can a Floridian tell us what, exactly, this bill prohibits?" Perhaps this info will prove helpful: Florida bill would ban CRT and gender studies degrees, give trustee boards more power.

As is usually the case when any leftist agenda is being successfully countered, the usual suspects are screaming bloody murder. It's music to our ears.

LOL! I was thinking similarly.
Why are the RINO’s and deep staters lining up and funding DeSatan for a bill like this!? Must be a reach-around ploy of some kind! Trump can do no wrong, wooooooooooo! 😂

DEI (or DIE) should be eliminated EVERYWHERE...root and branch.

COME ON MAN...are you very young and in-experienced in political world? Main reason I favor Trump is because he does NOT depennd on rich donors. All career politicians need sugar daddies. Sugar daddies demand favors in return for the money.

A notion left over from the days when there were very few college graduates or even high school graduates. To improve the situation state governments established “Normal Schools”, which later evolved into “Teachers Colleges” which again later evolved into Colleges of Education in universities. All along the way they used their “connection to the children” sent up barriers of entry to the profession. If doctors and lawyers can have such barriers why can fellow “professionals” like teachers have them? All “trades”, “professions”, etc. evolve if they can toward having “barriers of entry”. The “teachers” often “seal the deal” by requiring state EA membership.

I could teach all the STEM at the K12 level (Biology might be a stretch! I always hated it!). I the demonstrate the knowledge. I am confident I could teach American History & much European & World History but that would be harder to prove to those that don’t know me.

However, the system,” as set up will not allow me to do so unless I “genuflect” toward the “educrat” establishment by taking some set of “Ed courses”.

Typo

Note: “sent up” should be “set up”

Sigh
Another typo

“I the knowledge ..” should be “I could demonstrate ..”.

wish I was still young.

One shouldn’t base one’s opinions on conjecture. I’m sure trump had some rich donors as well.

I want all those constantly bashing DeSantis to find some evidence and show it or:

Yeah, the 'Trump or Die' crowd can be a bit, er, 'distressing'. I like DeSantis, I like Trump, both are good men and have done great things; all the insults and infighting are just playing into the enemy's hands.

DeSantis hasn't even declared yet, but everyone from top media pundits on down are betting that he will. If he doesn't though, well, I can live with having the best governor in the U.S. running my home state.

And Trump, if he gets to the POTUS again, is going to be a real bull in the China shop. He knows what he's dealing with now, and his stated positions become more hardline with every passing day. He wants all these Deep State traitors to swing, and the gloves would be off completely. I'd love to see that. Hard to say how berzerk the other side would get, but I'm as ready as I'm going to be, so bring it and let's get it over with.
