Winning an Oscar is a big deal for many reasons, but most important, your name will now have the words Academy Award winner before it in every trailer you appear in for the rest of your life. Talking during movies....big pet peeve. We had a movie night, years ago....GF, a neighbor, and his wife. Rented “Hamlet,” the Mel Gibson version, and something else...maybe “Robin Hood,” the Kevin Costner version. Less than a minute into “Hamlet,” the neighbor’s wife, a real dope, asks “Who died?” Apart from her not knowing, I guess letting the movie sort that out as it progressed, was out of the question. She complained about the writing, afterward.

I’ve only heard of two of those movies, Top Gun Maverick and Elvis.

Compare this list of movies to 1980’s pictures up for the Academy award:

Kramer Vs. Kramer (won)
All that Jazz
Apocalypse Now
Breaking Away
Norma Rae

If you watch the old awards shows, it’s obvious the women chose their own clothes and didn’t depend on a stylist. The ceremony was about the movies, not the narcissistic, sick, drug addicted and pedophilic celebs.

Basically a world were everything is queer, racially integrated, looks like a video game, and where no one does any work except sitting at a computer.

The film is essentially a two hour tantrum by a daughter trying to get her conservative mother to embrace that chosen lifestyle.

So it's a story about Kelly Ann Conway and her daughter?

Yes, was confused, puzzled and intrigued. Good to see a movie with mainly Asian characters. It is a long movie, funny, and so convoluted you don’t really know why things are happening.

Very hard to describe.

Yep, with Short Round playing George Conway.

“YOU DON’T HAVE TO POST IF YOU DON’T CARE” Nonsense, they have to post to let everyone else know how much they don’t care.

I wasn't going to comment until I noticed you saying we 'have to post'. What choice did I have?

Over all, I think yesterday’s show, although quite long and should have been cut by about half an hour, is a slow return to the traditional Oscars people use to watch about 30 years ago.

Agreed. They tightened up considerably. The show still runs long, but that is mostly because of all Oscars given in the supporting crafts. There was some discussion in the last couple of years about shortening the show by splitting the "minor" awards off and presenting them at another, non-televised dinner. (Didn't they try that for a year or two?) All the people in the technical fields set up a ruckus and the Oscars shifted back to the more inclusive format. That was the right call, IMHO. Yes, casual viewers like us are only interested in Best Picture, Best Director and the Acting awards, but it's the worker bees in the technical fields behind the camera who actually make "movie magic." Take them away and movies are nothing more than stage plays. Let the worker bees share the spotlight at least for one evening. YMMV.

It seems obvious that the whip was cracked and everyone was told to straighten up and fly right. Speeches were short and to the point. They did a pretty good job of staying out of politics. Attendees were generally well dressed and well behaved. There was no freakshow nonsense on display. I have still never watched an awards show on tv, and I would not dream of sitting in front of my tv for three hours to watch something like last night's Oscars. But since I did have a couple of rooting interests, it was easy enough to stream the show in a separate window, reduced in size, and check back in when something of interest to me came along.

How much longer the Oscars will be televised is an open question. I wouldn't be surprised if it moves to streaming-only in the near future.

Yeah. The girls picking “ Hamlet” because Mel Gibson was in it should have tipped me off.
