All Quiet on the Western Front is a great movie and the new militarists should watch it before they push WWIII on us. 1930 version awesome as well.
“Oscars Seeking To Eschew Politics, Partisanship In Favor Of Old-School Escapism “
Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel?
of hype for the Oscar’s this evening. Hoping all for naught.
“Trust us”, say the hateful liberals.
“Escapism?”
Escapism isn’t woke that has to include ESG/LGBTQ in EVERY part of a movie and make it normal. Escapism isn’t fantastic superheroes with ridiculous personalities, dubious capability or non-capabilities coupled with jerky action scenes where no one an actually follow what’s going on.
In short, escapism isn’t amoralistic values shaming OR lifestyle adulation. Escapism is supposed to take us away from what they’re trying to force us to tolerate, accept and endorse currently.
There Isa giat statue of Ukraine’s zelendki out front.
I’d almost watch if I knew someone was gonna go up on stage and slap him. Almost.
While I am rooting for All Quiet On The Western Front, there are too many differences from the original, so it’s not a replacement for the original.
The big difference between the average movie from then and what is coming out now is that the old movies were entertaining. I could see myself going to the movies a few times each week to get out of the house, away from the depression and war (or impending war) and walking out of the movie house feeling like I got my money's worth.
Today, the motive was "education" and "message" seems to have overwhelmed the profit motive tool of ensuring that the audience gets its money's worth.
Over 75% of my movie watching is pre-60s
Simpler plots, actual talent, and no children
I have no idea who most of the current generation of “stars” even are. Nor do I care
Sweet, simple, and directly on target
Kimmel won’t make it through the first 30 seconds of his monologue before he goes lunatic leftist political
Well, that doesn’t help with the garbage they will be honoring at the awards so it makes little difference.
“I have found myself watching a lot of movies from the 1930’s and 1940’s. Back when the studios ran the process and one of the primary motives was to make a profit.”
The old movie studios back then told their writers, whether they were left of right, “You want to send a message? Call western union.”
Over a century later, the First World War sort of is escapism.
Nobody is getting killed in Flanders nowadays.
Remember the young German men (boys) in school...so eager to join the battle? Don’t think we’ll have that issue with our youth.
Nope, even if they try to tamp down the show, it’s still just slapping the backs of a bunch of liberals.
One other factor back then was the large number of Europeans who came to America to escape the Nazis and Communists. They were uniformly grateful that there was an America to come to, and their work in the movies showed that appreciation.
Think about back then how different things were, especially for the poor, working class folks. Life pretty much sucked, war was thought of as an adventure that would break up the boredom, and at least allow some form of escape. Of course nobody could fathom the horrors that would befall them.
