I found a listing for my job at a much higher salary — so I reapplied

An NYC woman was certain she was qualified for the high-paying position she spotted on LinkedIn — because she was already doing the work.

UX writer Kimberly Nguyen, 25, went viral for claiming she applied for a similar job at her company that is being offered for a much higher salary.

The move comes months after a new law took effect that requires most NYC employers to list “good faith” salary ranges for any posting for a new job.

It’s the equivalent for customers. New customers always get the discounted rate. Established customer, they tell just pay up and stop whining.

That happened to me and I had to sign a non-compete to get any of the benefits I had accrued over 24.99 years. I took the article to my former employer, they had to slash the non-compete (or lawsuit) and I went to work within 2 weeks with a competitor and spent the next 10 years enjoying beating my old firm!

“What happened after your meeting with HR.”

I got a nice raise, a visit from the big boss telling me what an asset I was to the institution and that they didn’t want to lose me, and a promise of a 10% raise again the next year (which I did receive). By the time I retired I was the department head. The other place from which I had received a job offer told me if I ever decided to leave my current position, they would have a spot for me.

It’s beneficial to be the “go to person” at work. My response to any request was “I’ll take care of it”, and I did. It paid off in good pay and respect from most of my co-workers. The only ones who were a bit antagonistic were the one or two who would tell me to my face I made them look bad. My parents taught me if I was going to take on a job, I was supposed to do the best job possible.

The year I retired they named a “Employee Award of the Year” in my name. So once a year, an employer gets the “C______Employee of the Year award” and a little bonus check. I go back and present it each year.

Congratulations. I hope you write a book on business management, since everyone needs to learn from a pro like you. Serious. I encourage young people to visit Red Balloon Dot Work (www.redballoon.work/)in order to find jobs with other Christian Nationalists.

If she is already doing the same job, the company owes her, the higher salary, is patently unfair to not do so. Shame on them for advertising her replacement before firing her, if that was their intent.

Click bait. She is a contractor working for a contracting company that has her contracted to Citi.

Well, sometimes companies are not exactly above board. I see it all the time, where a company hires someone as a, "contractor." Except, they have a company computer, a company email, a desk, assigned hours, a requirement to be onsite, and they don't even know anyone at the company they are supposedly employed by, only by at the client company. Companies try t get all the benefits of an employee, with none of the liabilities.

There appears to be even more to it than that. How many years experience does she have? It sounds like not actually the same job.

And she is currently a contractor, and the job is a permanent one.

And she goes on and on about DIE stuff - sounding like she feels entitled to it because of her status.

It could be her performance is tied to being underpaid.

Not likely. Per the article, she’d been doing the job for 6 months. No citations of any experience beyond that. The job is posted for 5 years experience.

If she is employed by a contracting company that is the nature of the beast.

I worked at a company that was opening a new plant some 30 miles away in Lancaster, CA and closing the last of 3 in Northridge, CA
They told the approx 225 people that they could re-apply for their jobs if they wanted to work in the new plant.
Only 10 or so got a job there. They others hired as new and of course lower wages...
