OLYMPIA — A bill that would strip single-family zoning regulations from neighborhoods across the state to allow duplexes or fourplexes to be built passed the Washington state House of Representatives late Monday.
The measure, which passed 75-21 with bipartisan support, is aimed at alleviating the housing shortage by encouraging builders to put more people into existing city neighborhoods rather than encouraging urban sprawl.
The bill requires cities between 25,000 and 75,000 people to allow two units per lot anywhere and four units on lots within one half-mile of a bus stop .
Cities with more than 75,000 people or with a continuous urban area with more than 275,000 people — such as Spokane and Spokane Valley — would have to allow four units per lot anywhere and six units per lot within a quarter mile of a bus stop.

I can envision a lot of “ for sale” signs in the near future.
Very true, but the good news is it will discourage people from having kids. We don’t need any more little commies in the world.
and a desire to alter the character of suburban
neighborhoods is behind this push.

This has been ongoing for many years now. We
had a civil war in 1865 and changes will be.
People from south of the border are coming in

Keeps you from farming your own food, coincidentally ...
If I were running a local suburb, I would immediately revise my zoning so all lots now have to be 4 times the size they used to be. Problem solved.
Washington and Oregon have gone completely CCP, Xi, the murderer is pleased. Where will the first Gulag for the Baptists, Presbyterians, and anyone caught with a King James Bible.
be constructed.
I read the headline as “not allow” single family. Being this is “not prohibit” other uses is maybe a different matter.
You can still look at it as big brother dictating to the locals.
I live in W WA, thanks for the sympathy. I am planning my getaway day by day. My sister moved to Montana, but it is pricey. Idaho is not as expensive but it has its negatives. we are looking everwhere from WV to Arizona. We just want to be free, but family won’t move with us. I moved from the Seattle ferry reaches of Kitsap Cty, to Lewis Cty, which suddenly is going the way of Seattle. Nobody budged my way, so we may just go with the RV life.
I used to live in Cle-Elum, nice place and people, but the wife doesn’t want it.
Washington is so beautiful, but that Cascadia event, will put us under a large pile of mud.
>I live in W WA, thanks for the sympathy
Nothing personal, just pissed at what’s happened to WA, OR, CA, et al. I used to work in PDX. Yes, very beautiful.
The slums of Brazil must inspire urban planners everywhere.
These will all be outfitted with brand spankin’ new EV chargers, eh?
And let me guess. Stipulations for the permits require accepting section 8 and required to rent for diversity. Democrats must destroy everything. It is in their evil stupid blood.
Here, in eastern WA, we ignore a lot of the crap and various good people drag feet and what not so the liberal agenda can’t be implemented very well.
For example, the groomer sex education curriculum has yet to be implemented in the public schools here locally.
That's probably their basic academic model right there.
Allow or require?
de-Gentrification is not as easy as it looks.
Open borders is all that’s needed.
They are doing their durndest to make that yesterday’s news.
