Florida man attacked by alligator lurking outside his front door

It was a very unwelcome house call.

A Florida man was attacked by an alligator after opening his front door Saturday night, according to a report.

Daytona Beach resident Scott Hollingsworth told WESH that he heard a noise outside his home around 9:42 p.m., and when he stepped outside, “something grabbed me on the leg, started shaking violently.”

He added that he didn’t turn on a light, so he didn’t get a good look at his assailant, but told the station that he initially thought it was a dog.

“I stepped back into the house and closed the door,” Hollingsworth said.

When he looked down, he saw that he “had a large gash in the side of my leg.”

The homeowner, who planned to attend this week’s Bike Week, required surgery for his injury and told WESH that “everything’s going well” — but he “probably won’t be biking anytime soon.”

I agree completely. The alligators are out of control, it seems, in Florida. I still get chills thinking of that poor elderly woman at the retirement village in Florida who got attacked and killed recently while walking her dog near one of those ubiquitous “lakes” at these retirement places. She was not the first to lose her life to an alligator and certainly will not be the last. I suppose she should have realized that her little dog , who survived, was the attraction. It is just horrible and honestly, if I opened my door to a vicious alligator , Florida would be a memory.

The alligator was “dispatched” during the “On Patrol Live” broadcast Saturday night.

Yeah, I was watching that "professional" come out to take care of the gator. What an asshole he was. "turn off that light - I can't work in the light" - Which made me think he was going to trap and transport the gator, but he had some kind of stick (reminded me of a cattle prod) that he used to kill the gator.
Hell, you could have killed him that way with or without the light
took him a couple of tries, guess he was pissed that he had to get out of bed.
If they were going to euthanize the gator anyway, it would have been more merciful to have the cop shoot it in the head.....

At the Gulf Shores Shrimp Festival fried gator tail on a stick used to be pretty popular.

That stick was a bang stick that fires a shotgun shell into the gator's head. You hold the end of the bang stick right by the gator's head. One shot. Then you must reload.

Bang Stick w/Power Head: .410 shotgun (spring type) https://huntinglight.com/Bang-Stick-with-Power-Head-410-spring type Global web icon The GATOR PRO .410 Shotgun Bangstick is an excellent choice for Gator hunting. You also might find the shotgun shells more available and affordable. The chamber can hold up to 3" length ammo. We highly recommend using .410 slugs only, or 45 Long Colt pistol ammo can also be used.
