I worked one of her concerts a few years back. Although she w@s headliner, after Stephanie Mills finished playing, the crowd started leaving. Khan’s singing has probably seen better days.

Seperate Joan Baez the vocalist from Joan Baez the social activist if you can. Did I read you correctly in that you don’t think Joan can sing? (!!)
If that’s what you meant we will have to agree to disagree. IMO, Joan had a superb mezzo soprano voice in her prime. Some thought she did too much virbrato. I consider that a feature, not a bug.

Chaka may be correct in what she says about this since, among woman R&B singers themselves, she is considered to be the Gold Standard of range, style, and technique. Even recognizing that, her response here doesn’t say much for her class and humility. But, hey: and entertainer with a foul mouth and huge ego— who’d-a thunk it? Well, to be fair it is Rolling Stone Magazine. Not exactly a paragon of journalism.
