Music legend Chaka Khan has blasted the mag’s editors as “blind bitches” who “need hearing aids” in a new interview — after they dared to rank her at No. 29 on a “The 200 Greatest Singers of All Time” list behind such belters as Adele and Mary J. Blige.
In a lively chat with Andrew Goldman on his “The Originals” podcast for Los Angeles Magazine, Khan complained of the rankings, “These are blind bitches! They are blind as a motherf–king bat! They need hearing aids… These must be the children of Helen Keller!”
In the interview, she went off on Mariah Carey, Joan Baez and others, while giving singers such as Beyoncé and Aretha Franklin props.

Classy.......not
I’ve heard the name Chaka Khan. It’s a memorable name. I don’t know if I’ve ever heard her music.
Chaka Khan? Chaka Khan?
Chaka Khan???
I never ever heard of it...
Does it have anything to do with the Mongols attacking again?
I feel for you.
I don’t think I love you.
But I feel for you.
Chaka is mad, but she’s using the wrong sense to discuss it.
“Blind as a bat”? “Helen Keller?”
Chaka, you were a fantastic background singer, or for special riffs on the chorus, but you sound sorta dumb right here.
Besides, her heyday was about 35 years ago. That level of coloratura has been equalled and surpassed by people like Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Time does not stand still for any Diva.
I only remember her one song “Tell Me Something Good.”
She’s lucky she rated as high as she did.
Chaka may be correct in what she says about this since, among woman R&B singers themselves, she is considered to be the Gold Standard of range, style, and technique. Even recognizing that, her response here doesn’t say much for her class and humility. But, hey: and entertainer with a foul mouth and huge ego— who’d-a thunk it?
Once You Get Started
I could listen to that all day.
Chaka Khan is a Diva among divas. The uber-Diva.
Yeah, that's an under-served niche.
She was great in, “The Blues Brothers”. ;-)
Clever use of synesthesia!
She probably just isn't your taste in music. She's had a buch of huge hits-- with and without her first band, Rufus. Just off the top of my head:
Tell Me Something Good
Sweet Thing
Ain't Nobody
Do You Love What You Feel
I Feel For You
Hollywood
At Midnight
What cha' Gonna Do For Me
I'm Every Woman
Through The Fire
Thank you.
I will check them out!
And if they’re blind. What does that have to do with their hearing?!
