March 2 (UPI) -- The National Park Service offered some sage advice for park visitors who encounter bears: "Never push a slower friend down."
The NPS said on its official Twitter account that feeding another human to a bear is never the answer.
"If you come across a bear, never push a slower friend down...even if you feel the friendship has run its course," the NPS tweeted.
A reply to the tweet asked what a park visitor should do if they are the slower friend, to which NPS said: "Check in on the friendship before you head to the woods."
"Seeing a bear in the wild is a special treat for any visitor to a national park. While it is an exciting moment, it is important to remember that bears in national parks are wild and can be dangerous," officials wrote in a follow-up tweet.
The NPS shared a link to its page of bear encounter advice, which includes hiking in groups, picking up small children and keeping food away from the animals.
It’s times like that when it’s good to be autistic. Fear is not something I feel like most other people do.
Things that scare most other people tend to irritate me. That’s about the best comparison I can make.
Are there any elected Democrats who wouldn’t push their friend down?
They have no ‘friends’.
“If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog.” - Harry Truman................
Twitter ; the home of Twits who would need to be told something so idiotic
don't worry though , the anti-hero post millenials who support feeding others to bears will be "shadowbanned" when posting gleefully about their self esteem and mefirstness
But at least free speech is alive at Twitter and not fed to the bears
I almost always go back country hiking with a friend capable of doing about 1,400 feet per second.
I could have sworn this was from the Bee.
The advantage of pushing your friend down, though, is that then you don’t have to run, you can just calmly walk away or enjoy the National Geographic moment.
This is the perfect example of a post the would be shadowbanned on the Twits "free speech" platform
Excellent point! No need to push down the slower friend.
This is why we need Big Government.
To tell us such things!........................
😜👌🤦♂️.......................................
What on earth.
And if they just happen to make it out alive, you don't want a messy and expensive court case
They are laughing at us. It is inappropriate IMO when they should give meaningful advice instead.
Absolutely...I’m 63 and have bad knees and hips. Most anyone can out run me. If I can’t push the faster one down, then I’ll shoot them in the knee caps.
A friend hunts elk in the Rockies. One might think a high-powered rifle would suffice for surprise bear encounters, but he carries a 10mm with extended clip in a chest holster for that.
“I don’t need to outrun the bear. I just need to out run YOU!....................”
That was my 5’ tall, Mother’s favorite saying. She was a cheerleader and ran dashes in high school and college.
Why don’t you just shoot the bear instead? Keep your friend, and lose the animal.
And was never eaten by a bear!...................
Exactly. The polite thing to do is to holler over your shoulder that you are going for help and will be back soon.
