R.I.P.
One of the greats.
Saw him perform as part of Weather Report back in 1975. RIP.
My favorite sax player. Simply the best.
Was introduced to his music through Mysterious Traveller, an album that ranks in the top 5 of my all-time favorites.
I’ve seen some great saxophonists in my life and I wasn’t even trying. Wayne Shorter, Eric Marienthal, Joe Henderson, Bill Evans, Dexter Gordon, David Sanborn... and a few more.
Jeff Coffin with the Flecktones...
Earl Klugh had a good one too in Lenny Price.
I don’t know how or why.. It just happened. Sometimes you witness greatness, but those saxophonists were there and for many odd reasons I just showed up. It’s weird.
I have read multiple articles about him following his death, and like this one, they all fail to mention that his second wife, Ana Marie was killed in the Flight 800 shoot down. Most just say she died in a plane crash.
Boy, a lot of the nonpareils of jazz are mentioned here.Their like will never be seen again but their music will live forever and be a model for those following in their footsteps. RIP Mr. Shorter.
RIP.
Great art, great music, and great literature are hard to find in America today, and as the Communists would say, that is no accident, comrade. Human beings are an imitative group. When one is in daily contact with great musicians, one may become one also. When one is in daily contact with a bunch of narcissistic, entitled whiners, there will just be more narcissistic, entitled whining. America may produce great artists someday once again, but not now.

Weather Report’s “Mysterious Traveler” is one of my all-time favorite jazz albums.
