2-year-old dies after being left in vehicle for several hours, Atmore father charged

ATMORE, Ala. -- A 52-year-old Atmore man is charged with reckless murder after his 2-year-old child died after being left in a vehicle for several hours.

Atmore Police arrested Shawn Rounsavall Monday night. He is being held in Escambia County, Alabama jail without bond.

Being 52 with a two year old would not be easy, but it is hard to belive one can just forget about their child strapped to a car seat and left to die.

“According to Atmore Police, Rounsavall brought his 2-year-old child to the hospital around 4:30 p.m. after the child was left unattended in a vehicle for several hours. The 2-year-old was pronounced dead by medical staff a short time later.

Police say officers discovered that the child “was supposed to be dropped off at a local daycare” in the morning.”

I think “several hours” in this case means essentially all day.

And he drove all the way back to the daycare without noticing the dead baby in the back seat.
