POLL: Only 26% of Americans want US heavily involved in Ukraine war
Post Millenial ^

Nearly one year after Russia's invasion of Ukraine, public support for the role the United States is playing in supplying weapons and funds to the eastern European nation has declined among both Democrats and Republicans alike.

I don’t think you’re crazy, but it’s only part of it. The other part of it is strangely not being made very clear to the American public, outside of “it’s the most important thing Americans should be concerned about”.

I was being a little tongue-in-cheek. I think there are a whole basket of issues that Western Global Elites obsess about. Of these, LBGTQ+ and Climate Change are the craziest and most prominent. But the bottom line is that they want to dictate to rest of the world and they can’t stand players, like Putin/Russia, who won’t toe the ideological line.

Of course, there are others (China, India, most of the Muslim world, etc.). But those will be dealt with in turn. At the moment, even with nukes, Russia is perceived as the most vulnerable and strategically important for the others to fall. Which is why they are being dealt with now.

“Heavily involved” assumes US forces and aircraft actively engaged in combat in Ukraine against the Russians. I know of no one who wants to see that.

We are doing what the USSR did in Korea in the 1950s and Vietnam in the 1950s, ‘60s, and 70s: Arm one of the combatants. Back then they armed their player against us; today, we arm our player against them. Proxy war. I am amused at those here on FR who collapse into high dudgeon over it; because it is how the game is played; it is how the game has ALWAYS been played.

It amazes me how little thought people put into this conflict. There are Ukrainian flags all around my neighborhood (very liberal/uninformed).
Do these people realize that Ukraine is vying for most corrupt civilized country with Russia. The meddling in our elections. The attempts to draw the West into World War III.
Wake up, people!

“Incorrect. In present DC deep-state/woke political reality, these two things are two sides of the same coin - part of one ideology, one political end. Completely inseparable.”

Nonsense. If they were the same mindset, two sides of the same coin, the platform would be no support for defending our borders AND no support for arming Ukraine; or conversely, support for our borders AND support for arming Ukraine.

But, I’ll let you explain your position: What is the inseparable political end you envision?

So where is the money for border security? The Dems and Rep neo-cons have no problem providing tens of billions to defend Ukraine’s borders, money that must be borrowed, and yet can’t find the funds to secure our own borders. Is that a false dichotomy?

Sad to think there are that many globalist dupes in this country.

There’s that many on FR percentage-wise. Morons, all of them.

Yes, it is very much a false dichotomy.

It’s not so much about the money as it is the refusal of the Biden administration to enforce our immigration and border laws.

Oh, BTW: The term “neocon” came into vogue in the 1960s when the left applied it to Democrats who favored a strong US military and a robust foreign policy. Thus, your term “Rep neo-con” is an oxymoron.

Yes, Ukraine is a proxy war. Our stated objective has been regime change in Russia and a war of attrition to weaken the Russian military. We helped take down the Russians in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, it led to the formation of AQ and militant Islamic fundamentalism that led to 9/11 and our involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq that cost trillions of dollars and tens of thousands of American dead and wounded. The law of unintended consequences.

We lost in Vietnam and maintained the status quo in Korea while losing 100,000 American troops and many more wounded. The Soviets had few losses. The Chinese had massive losses in Korea. But North Korea has emerged as a nuclear power threatening our allies in the Far East.

I am amused that Biden is getting upset about China aiding Russia. Of course that is the way the game is played. China will arm Russia in its proxy war with us and NATO. They would love more direct involvement in Ukraine by NATO. The more blood and treasure invested by the US in Ukraine weakens us and our ability to prevent Chinese hegemony over Asia. The biggest winner in Ukraine is China. Let the games begin.

Bottom line is that Biden is not securing our border as a matter of policy. He is doing it intentionally. On the other hand, protection of Ukraine’s border is worth risking a nuclear war.

They might like Moldavia, but they LITERALLY have to go through Ukraine to get there. Kherson, Odessa, Mylovaiv... Not an easy trip.

“Our stated objective has been regime change in Russia and a war of attrition to weaken the Russian military.”

Do you have a source for that? That our STATED objective is regime change in Russia? The imbecilic Biden made a dumbass comment at a presser that was quickly walked back by the administration. So, please post a link to the official stated objective for regime change and a war of attrition to weaken the Russian military.

“We helped take down the Russians in Afghanistan.”

Yes, we did.

“Unfortunately, it led to the formation of AQ and militant Islamic fundamentalism that led to 9/11 and our involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq that cost trillions of dollars and tens of thousands of American dead and wounded. The law of unintended consequences.”

Wrong. Radical and militant fundamental islamism existed way before Russia’s invasion of Afghanistan.

“We lost in Vietnam and maintained the status quo in Korea while losing 100,000 American troops and many more wounded.”

We were never defeated militarily in Vietnam. Our politicians quit and threw in the towel.

“The Soviets had few losses.”

They had few losses because they had few military personnel in either Koreas or Vietnam, aside from some pilots and AA techs and advisors.

“But North Korea has emerged as a nuclear power threatening our allies in the Far East.”

Because of assistance from Russia and China.

“I am amused that Biden is getting upset about China aiding Russia. Of course that is the way the game is played.”

Biden is an idiot who doesn’t even know what year this is.

“China will arm Russia in its proxy war with us and NATO.”

No doubt.

“They would love more direct involvement in Ukraine by NATO. The more blood and treasure invested by the US in Ukraine weakens us and our ability to prevent Chinese hegemony over Asia.”

Of course that is China’s wish.

“The biggest winner in Ukraine is China.”

That is China’s goal. But reality has derailed many a goal.

“Let the games begin.”

Sooner or later, they always do.

That’s a fact.

“On the other hand, protection of Ukraine’s border is worth risking a nuclear war.”

Nonsense. If there is a nuclear war it will be started by Russia. And I don’t think Russia is insane enough to do that.

No, it’s an oxymoron because he qualified “neocon” with “Rep.”

Sorry, Jon; but it was the Democrats who were the interventionists; Republicans advocated a more insular foreign policy.

Very much agree with you.

Russia is evil and full of corruption.
Ukraine is corrupt, morally bankrupt and evil.

Why waive either of these loser nations flags?
