A cross-bred “super pig” from Canada is poised to wreak havoc on the environment in the United States and must be dealt with aggressively and immediately, a wildlife expert told Fox News Digital.
“These pigs are easily the worst invasive large mammal on the planet,” said Dr. Ryan Brook, an assistant professor in the department of animal and poultry science at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada.
These “super pigs” are actually a cross between a European wild boar and a domestic pig, Brook said.
The pigs “cause crop damage, destroy natural environments, get into cities, destroy water quality and can spread disease to humans, livestock, pets and native wildlife,” he also noted.
The pigs are coming into the U.S. from Canada as their numbers swell there, causing populations to migrate south. Left unchecked, these “super pigs” could negatively impact just about everyone, Brook emphasized. …

In Florida, wild pigs are a major pest, with frequent intrusions into suburbs and rural homesteads.
At least one of those Canuck pigs is loose here on FR...
It think the Canadian “expert” is very late to the party. We've been trapping Feral Pigs for 35 years. I've made a lot of whole hog sausage, never cured bacon.
We have meat processing facility at farm. (non commercial)
He is right about how invasive they are, but ours did not come from Canada.
It is so hard to control the growth of numbers of these cross bred hogs, that in Texas it is perfectly legal to hunt them from helicopter. I've seen that in action.
We have 4 nice traps on our farms that we occasionally set, hogs are very smart.
These “super pigs” are already all over the SE US and they wreck havoc on the row crops. A little famine would rid the countries of them quickly.
You shouldn’t post stuff like that during the breakfast hour. That’s just wrong.
How are the pigs surviving the North’s winters?
“How are the pigs surviving the North’s winters?”
Ham-dily.
having hunted and shot a fair number of them.
The problem I see is land holders giving them sanctuary.\
I hear it a lot, I have a hog problem.
Will let me come and shoot them.
No I don’t want anybody on my land. But if you pay me you can come and shoot one.
We should gather a few hundred sows and a dozen or so males and release them in North Korea. That’s a win/win as the peasants begin to get a decent amount of protein in their diet. And it would distract Sum Yung Fatboy from his rocket fascination.
I hunt pigs from a elevated chair stand. .223 is my go to. Shot in the ear drops them quickly.
We don’t have enough pasture to be significant for hunting.
Dad always had access to small place plus our own to hunt quail on. He had a number of close friends who hunted with him.
Old friends.
There is a young guy, friend of my nephew, who has a blind to hunt hogs from in a creek bottom near a spring fed stock tank. It was dug to a shale formation below ground level but not in the creek. All the water in the tank comes from the springs. It is pretty deep. A really good Cat skinner ran the dozier. After he saw the grey shale he really did the job. We had to constantly pump down the water level to allow him to complete it. Since then, over 30 years ago, it has never gone dry and no water can run into the stock tank from the creek. It is above grade.
There are a few people we allow to hunt in our pasture. Never charge for it. There are my 2 mares and quite a few cattle in the pasture now.
We have 2 farms that have this creek running through it. Both have hogs that go through to water. They must have water to survive here.
They are really good eating too.
Send our woke army after them.
OMG! Coming in from Canada! I hope they don’t inbreed with the wild Razorback hogs imported by the Spanish in the 1500s!
Unfortunately the wild hogs here are infected with Psudo-rabies and are left to rot after being shot.
No wonder hunters here love the AR-15 for hog control!
That cross isn’t new. We have them all over the US including here in GA.
I turn alcohol into urine.
Uhhh, nothin’ against ya, FRiend, but I think I’m still more impressed with the pig. :)
