Florida fairgoers get stuck upside-down on ride in terrifying mishap

Florida fairgoers got stuck upside-down on a ride that malfunctioned at the state fair Friday in a “nightmare” situation that left them thankful to be alive.

The Ferris wheel-type ride, which features enclosed carriages that swing and flip upside-down, slowed down due to its safety mechanism acting up — which caused some of the carts to get stuck upside-down as riders held on “for dear life,” according to patrons and local news station WFLA.

The attraction, called the Enterprise, does not have safety belts and some riders said they feared they would fall through the open-air carriages as they waited up to a half hour to be rescued.

The manager of the Florida State Fair told WFLA that the safety mechanisms of the Enterprise were activated, which caused the ride to shut down “as designed.”

Most likely the operators were in prison as recently as this morning.

Probably about 40 years ago, Mrs. R17 and I went to Disney World.
We rode the “It’s A Small World” ride and the boats
got stuck inside for whatever reason...
After 20-30 minutes or so of listening to that stupid song
people started trying to climb out of the boats.
Uniformed security guards appeared from the animated characters
and demanded them to get back in the boats.
We have never been back and we both hate that stupid song.

Anytime someone wants to ‘dance’ with gravity, I ask them if their Last Will & Testament are up to date. Reminds me of bungee jumping. Even before my several whiplash auto accidents, I refused to place my spinal cord in such jeopardy.

Also reminds me of our father. He joined the Air Force and fought in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He survived it all. He refused to ever jump out of his airplane if there were still two wings. He used to say “There are 2 kinds of people that jump out of airplanes; idiots, and people in the armed services. Even when he was shot down in Vietnam, he managed to guide the plane down, and used the forest top to cut his speed. Thanks to God and the United States Marines, he survived and made it home to his wife and 7 children.

Could never understand the attractiveness these devices called “rides” have, for certain people.

‘He used to say “There are 2 kinds of people that jump out of airplanes; idiots, and people in the armed services.” ‘

My father spent 27 years in the USAF and MDANG, he flew C-130’s for 15 years and dropped a lot of troops. He told us he was happy he’d had an equal number of take-offs and landings, and, most importantly, you never leave a perfectly good aircraft.

If the carriages were enclosed, why would they need to "hang on for dear life"?

It might be scary and uncomfortable, but they were safe.

Decades ago, my son-in-law’s grandparents owned and ran a Carnival. To this day he will not get on a carnival ride. He saw too much of what went into it, lacking maintenance, etc.

Nobody’s life was in danger.

But lawyers are already recruiting drama queens to fleece the carnival. That almost seems like a divide by zero proposition to me.
