The driver was going 40 mph when a tree crushed her SUV—and it may have saved her life.
The local Katonah, New York, fire department was dispatched to an alarming scene recently when a woman driving alone in her Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro was hit by a falling tree while traveling down the road at speed, trapping the injured driver until the Jaws of Life tool could be used to extricate them. Luckily, the driver survived with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to a Reddit thread posted by the driver, the tree fell on her car while she was traveling at approximately 40 mph. The driver said she believes the truck's frame and dashboard stopped the tree, saving her life.
Images posted to the Katonah Fire Department's website show a mangled front end of the SUV, though the vehicle was still powered on after the crash for some time. "I couldn't put my car into park or move my legs," the driver wrote in the thread. "My foot on the brake was the only thing keeping me alive until firefighters arrived. If I relieved my foot from the brake, the car would roll further into the tree and closer to my face." Note that the driver was, remarkably, holding the brake while suffering from a broken shin and knee.

I guess, I am not really surprised by the Toyota, they have gained a damned good reputation over the past few decades. A reputation wonce held by the Big Three.
“Note that the driver was, remarkably, holding the brake while suffering from a broken shin and knee.”
Let me tell you something, that is a woman to ride the river with.
Trail Rated Jeeps are beefier than TRD Toyotas. But Toyota is still really good.
3rd generation 4Runners! Outstanding vehicles.
3rd generation 4Runners
1996 – 2002
People who travel the Merritt know this happens at least once a year.
It almost happened to me in Connecticut no-mans-land on the Merritt.
The 4Runner wins. Have had 2 sahara specials
The 4Runner is much more vehicle. Imho
I've had nothing but problems with the fuel pump, which apparently (according to recalls) was a complaint in the 2019 Tacoma models.

No way. Jeep slaps that trail rated badge on everything. Even their basic Cherokees. They’re not anywhere in the same class as a 4runner reliability or capability wise
Body on frame from a quality manufacturer.
I own two of them, a 2007 and 2012.
Will not part with them.
I had a 1977 Toyota Celica Liftback...I called it my “Peach” (yeah, I am old) My best car ever...(except the blind spot)
Why won’t CT get them into therapy or on meds?
Because they’ll move to Florida.
I’ve owned 14 rwd Celicas in my life. A 77 and a 76 lift back. Some of my favorites. 18 Supras. 2 MR2s. 3 Corollas. All rwd. I miss those cars and constantly look for them to buy. There are two 75 coupes next to a barn near me that I’m going to approach at some point. Not a fan of the coupe first gens. Coupe 2nd Gen, yes.
Oh and a 79 Supra down the road from me too. I stopped in to ask about it and the next day they pushed it into their garage.
I also had a first gen 4Runner. While fun, it was NOT safe.
I had a trail rated Jeep. Biggest piece of crap I’ve ever owned, I’ll never own another Jeep product.
You mean the jeeps where step one is to throw half of it away and buy robust aftermarket parts to make it more than mall rated?
You can endure a lot if you think your life depends on it.
In the fall of 2019, a big oak tree at the side of our property got tired and decided to lay down one night. It wasn't a dead tree, but I suspect a combination of excessively dry soil and and wind hitting it just the right way. It fell on my Cherokee, completely compressing the springs. None of the glass was broken or cracked, and in the interior there was a dent in the headliner about 2-3".
Long story short, my family could have been in the vehicle when that tree fell, and walked away completely uninjured.
4 runners are my dream vehicle.
