Triston Casas is ready to make his mark on Major League Baseball.
On Friday, the Boston Red Sox phenom Casas showed off a unique painted nails look. Casas was wearing bright red nail polish on his fingernails and white nail polish on his toenails. The 23-year-old said he will “likely” be wearing his nails like that during the MLB season.
Here is the picture of Casas’ nails, per Red Sox beat writer Julian McWilliams of the Boston Globe.
Casas was also spotted wearing black nail polish at the Red Sox “Winter Weekend” fan event last month.
The first baseman Casas was Boston’s first-round draft pick in 2018 and was MLB’s No. 25-ranked prospect in 2022. While Casas hit just .197 in 27 total appearances for the Red Sox last season, he is expected to get plenty of run in 2023 as the team’s everyday first baseman.
Since Casas will be wearing a glove while fielding and batting gloves while hitting, we might not see his nails on the field very often. But that look is even a step above the painted nails we saw on another young athlete.
Is he a catcher? If not, there’s no excuse for this nonsense.
Decades ago, I saw an interview with Dodger First Baseman Steve Garvey. He described a game with the Reds when Reds shortstop Dave Concepcion got on first base. Garvey had noticed that Concepcion was wearing a bracelet. At that point Garvey called the Reds shortstop “Miss Concepcion”. That got a laugh from the television audience.
Good for him for letting others know who they're dealing right up front.
Is he gay? This may just be a 23-year-old kid doing something silly to show support for his team. Red nails for the Red Sox. People paint their faces and bodies red (or green or other colors) to support their teams all the time.
If he is a pitcher he should use Sally Hanson Hard-as-Nails if he is looking to strengthen nails for knuckleballs ... but somehow I doubt that is what this one is doing.
Ok. he want’s to make sure everyone knows he’s a homo. So now does that mean he’s in a protected class and can’t get traded or sent down to the minors? This is crazy. The insanity has now reached baseball.
Crazy is at war with normal.
I don't think it has anything to do with homosexuality, or we would be calling every woman who wore a pair of pants a lesbian.
I have seen some non-gay 30-40 year olds sporting painted toe nails. One is a Marine (no longer active duty). These are genuinely great people to be around otherwise, but I just dont get it. Seems about as feminine as one can get without crossing the line. Is that how they meet girls these days? Has to be too much free time on their hands. Just weird.
And this is why I have no problem with AI generated sports news. What’s the difference if a woke human or a woke AI creates this jejune crap.
It’s the “inclusivity” nonsense, more than whether or not this proponent is himself homo. Just another section in the leftists’ attack on culture.
Well, I do.
Some guitar players, especially classical ones paint their finger nails to keep them from cracking and splitting. Normally though they use clear polish. I could see pitcher doing that.
When I was a kid, I had my ear pierced. Some guys had long hair. Fads come and go.
That is SO sweet, Tristen.
I can foresee nail polish that creates a sandy grit on nails to help doctor pitches and it being anti-lgtbf to outlaw it.
Next level of cheating.
“Disinformation” is the charge leftists resort to. “Non news” is the charge libertarians and the overall morally or mentally vacuous resort to.
From what I gather, the guy just likes to paint his nails like a girl typically would. He doesn't seem like a homo. He doesn't appear to be "transitioning" to the other gender or anything like that.
Yes, it's a little weird to most of us to see a guy paint his nails. Just like people think I'm a little different because I grow my hair long. But this eccentricity aside, he seems like a normal guy to me (see below).
